Using HVX as a DV Deck... Output timecode?

Dear all,

When working on SD projects, I use my HVX as a deck to output to miniDV. However, no timecode seems to be included when I play the tape back.

Has anyone come across this problem before and know the menu voodoo to fix this? If you could reply, I would be greatful!

Man, Seriously you are WASTING a great camera, stop the abuse and stop putting time on heads. buy a VTR. True life.

i woudlnt be using such a piece of equipment as a Deck, thats just my .2 cents, lol... i dont know about your timecode question tho, heh

I concur... if you're cheap like me, you can always use a cheap consumer DV camera as a deck. At least that way you save the wear and tear on your HVX, and you'll have a camera you don't care about breaking on vacations.

I concur too, it's just that my cheap consumer DV camera's power supply has broken, and needs must...

...is there a solution?

Have you taken you tape to another deck?

Have you taken you tape to another deck?

First off, I definitely agree with all the other folks about using the camera that way, but anyhow.... Have you put that DV cassette into another camera or VTR to confirm the lack of timecode? The firewire protocol takes TC w/ it, so outputing to the camera should send the timeline TC with it. However, say that doesn't happen, the camera should then use its own build in TCG to create timecode, even if it then doesn't necessarily match the TC of your timeline. It certainly sounds quite peculiar to me that you could successfully record video onto a DV cassette and not have any timecode at all. So anyway, I'd just make sure to test that tape somewhere else, besides in the HVX itself that you recorded on.

cheers.

I have the same problem. I have a cheap DV cam I use as my capturing deck but last night I was trying to capture some HD direct to my laptop because I don't have P2 yet... when I couldn't get that to work I thought I would try to capture some of my test footage that I had shot on tape. The camera shows up and is controlable but when I try to capture there is no timecode going out.
