Using an LCD-HD monitor with the HVX?

I'm shooting a short on the HVX200 soon and I was hoping to save money on the expensive monitors I normally get from rental houses, if that is possible to do without losing quality. Would an LCD-HD Monitor work well with the hvx 200 for focus and color reproduction?

I notice CostCo has some inexpensive options. What are the more experienced HVX users opinion on this?

Many thanks,

Sean

p.s. the title should read "hvx," not hcx. Thanks.

How would you power it if you used an LCD TV? You'll have to drag a power cord around, plus the weiight of the TV. Plus getting it near the camera itself. You'd want an extension on the stock component cable, too.

If you did use one, I'd go into the color menus and dial all the settings to nuetral and start from there doing adjustments (use the bars that come out of the camera). TVs come set to vibrant color and high contrast so they look great to consumers when they are sitting on the shelf at Costco. The goal for the factory settings is to make the colors explode when first viewed so that shoppers will go wow, that don't look like my old RCA. I gotta get me one of them! You, on the other hand will want more realistic color rendition and a level of contrast that enables you to figure out if there is light in the shadows or not.

As for focus, they'd probably be better than the stock LCD....

Plus, you could always use it at home for watching TV. Now isn't that the real reason you want one?

BTW, I use a Carrion LCD that powers off of two Panasonic batteries or a 12v brick. I recently did a short where my monitor didn't show up and I ended up doing all focusing for three days with the stock EVF and LCD on both my HVX and HPX500. Wouldn't have been able to use the TV option though, since it was shoot outdoors without a generator.

I just did a shoot with a company named Flanders Scientific. They have the best editing LCDs (Grade 1) I have seen, especially for the price. But these are not inexpensive in comparison to the lower end LCDs out there.

They are about to introduce a 7" & a 9" later in the year. If you want a professional quality LCD you might look into their product line.
