Would it be possible to use the Sescom LN2MIC-ZMGH-MON 3.5 Line to 2.5 Mic 25dB for Zoom H4N with Monitoring Tap cable with the Rode Videmic Pro connected via a 3.5mm female to 3.5mm female socket adaptor into the GH2 ie so as to get audio monitoring.

Well that cable is padding down line level to mic level but the VMP is already mic level so I am going to go with no. I actually have a VMP and a H4n with the LN2MIC-ZMGH-MON 3.5 Line to 2.5 Mic 25dB on order ...

Checking their other cables I think this might be what you are looking for (plus a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter):

Sescom DSLR-MIC-MON 3.5mm Mic to Mic with Audio Monitor Tap for DSLR Cameras

Designed as a headphone monitoring interface between preamps, field recorders and DSLR cameras. Many recording devices and preamps have only a single Line Out jack. This jack is used to monitor with headphones or to connect to a DSLR. This cable allows users to go directly from the audio recorder into the camera and also monitor with headphones, creating a compact & elegant interface solution.

The high quality components guarantee there is no introduction of noise and minimal loss of signal strength. 3.5mm TRS Male to 3.5mm TRS Male & Female Y-Split. 17".

I thought that might be the case, I was hoping the plus 20db switch on the VMP may have assisted, but you would not get the benefit of a better signal to noise ratio.
I have the H4N and the cable for the GH2 but can not source th GH2 in Oz. I am worried about handling noise using the Zoom direct on camera. I will be using a Hoodman cinema kit pro which require a hot shoe booster, if I add the Rycote shock mount for the Zoom it will be getting very tall on top of the camera.

No. As Grisnjam said, the cable converts a line-level signal down to mic-level, so plugging a mic-level signal into it will drop it down -25dB making it inaudible. However, if you have an H4n on hand, you can plug the VideoMic Pro into the 3.5mm mic input on the H4n and use that Sescom cable on the headphone output of the H4n into the GH2.

Not knocking on sescom, but I really wanted this setup a year ago. Also the AGC cable they had to attach an MP3 player, however since the release on Juicedlink DS214 at such an affordable price. I waited for that. There was a few times I've seen it used for $100 bucks. I'd go that route for GH2 / 7D which I own both.

I ended up with DS454 instead.
