Using a circular polarizing filter as a neutral density filter ?

I read somewhere that I could use a circular polarizing filter as a neutral density filter in situations where I will need slower shutter speeds.

I would love to be able to put my Nikon PL2 62mm circular polarizing filter on my Lumix GH1 and use it as a ND filter instead of just buying a dedicated ND filter.

Do you think that is possible ? And would it work for shooting videos at 1/2 ?

Many thanks for your time and help.

That's exactly what I do with my HV20. I use two Hoya circular polarizers to help me open up the aperture all the way outdoors. Works like a charm.

OK why two!? To double up the f/stops of density?

One is not enough?

You can make a vari-nd by placing a linear polarizer on top of a circular polarizer and rotating the linear polariser. Depending upon the orientation of the two polarisers with respect to each other a variable amount of light is let through. You get all the glare, reflection, and sky changing effects of a polarizer with this combination though... The plus side though is that the ND is variable and with one set of filters you can adapt to many lighting conditions rather than having to carry a whole set of NDs
