I gather it is not good form to connect to a PC, do a transfer and then, from the PC, locate the directory on the card and delete files.
This seems to put things in an infinite loop where the system tries to "Repair" ghost images of what used to be there.
Twice I have been through this as a result of force of habit of clearing out external drives and had to remove the battery. Luckily, there was no damage to the card but it was scary watching "repair" run for an hour with the battery about to run out.
The best result is with copy from the camera followed by Menu\Operation\Delete at the camera.
