Used HVX200 or New one?

Getting a good deal a a used HVX200 with 3-8 gig cards, a bunch of batteries,
and the panasonic portable hard disk drive. Camera hours say about 150 hours on it.
Camera has traveled and looks used--

Anything I should look out for buying the camera used or should just get a new one?

I'm getting the package for about 3500.00 (after deducting the $$$ he owes me for a job )

Is this a good deal or should splurge for a new one?

:dankk2:

Considering you can use P2 cards a minimum of 35,5000 times before you see any degradation and even upwards of 100,000 times based on recent claims you'd probably be good to go with the used one. If you're in the US you get a free 16gb card with a new one, but up here in CanaDuh we don't get a single thing when buying an HVX. So even if all those hours were on the tape heads, that is still pretty low usage and as long as the camera has been cared for and not used in stupidly extreme conditions or dropped you'd probably be ok.

New is always nice, but if I had that deal up here I would have gone for it rather than buy new. If the guys takes care of his gear you should be ok.

Anything is a crapshoot though

It sounds like a great deal to me. As long as the camera's in good shape, I'd jump all over that.

used for 3500 plus what he owes you? I got mine used for 2300

You got the deal of the century, I bought mine with 1 hour on it for $3900. He's still getting a great deal with a P2 Store and 3-8 Gig cards included.

2300 for a used HVX is unheard of.

@ original poster:

Make sure you are getting a working, fully functional camera. Put it through it's paces if you can to make sure there are no issues. Otherwise, sounds like a real nice deal. Buying used is always a risk though, and of course, keep that in mind.

If you feel really uncomfortable about it, then you might as well buy new and save yourself the stress. Spec-Comm has deals on "B-Stock" that are pretty good deals too, if it would make you feel "safer". 90 day warranty, and I think it was like around 4grand for a demo HVX and 16 gig card.

No one can answer the question for you though, as no one can know whether the camera works properly except for the seller. And, it's up to you, the buyer, to make sure you are getting what you expect for the price.

Just make sure you are confident with the buy. If you aren't, then you are probably better off looking elsewhere.

Bro, I wouldn't be surpised if this package doesn't end up going for around 5k or so. There's 6 days left. I"ve been a part of some auctions just like this and then in the last hour it goes up 2k and isn't such a great deal then. Even so... at 5k that might not be a bad deal..

I'm hoping to come across a deal for a used HVX as well. I"m less reluctant than I would be to get a tape based used camera.. that's for sure.

be cautious

be cautious

it may be a good deal, but before you buy this piece of equipment, make sure that you take it to a Panasonic dealer, pay the 150 bucks to get it inspected for water or any other damage on the inside. Water damage is a sneaky dot, (damage over time). Ramifications such as corrosion etc... Please be cautious with used equipment. Second, warranty, does it have warranty? if it does not, who is not to say that something malfunctions.

I'm trying to figure out how all these guys are selling hvx's for $4000 even without cards when if you tack on the price of a 16gig card you practically have a new one with the promotion... seems kind of weird.

Hello Mr. Bill,

The deal looks pretty good on the outside but make sure that the camera is in good functional shape first. I would also look out for the Battery Tabs, check the handle support at the bottom of the arch for cracking and check the firewire port and headphone jack very well before purchasing.

In case you decide to go with a new camera, we are carrying stock with the free card and HVX book and our additional battery already in the box plus free ground shipping.

Please let me know how I can help.

You got what sounds like a very good deal. That said, most used HVX's aren't really "good deals" compared to new.

it is probably a good deal, but the one thing your not saying is how much does he owe you? if he was to pay you cash, how far away would you be from affording a new one with warranty,

I don't think buying grey matters when buying used, Panny doesnt allow the warranty to transfer. but you should check out if thats true or not, I'm not sure, but I seem to recall reading it somewhere.

Brand new gray market HVX200 for $4450.00 + $35.00 shipping. 6 in stock.

(They are U.S. versions manufactured by panasonic in Japan. They just are not covered by U.S. panny warrantee.)

PM if interested.
