Hello

I just bought 2 used Canon L zoom lenses ..... good cosmetic condition, AF works, zoom and focus rings are smooth, no visible glass damages..... has some internal dust, but as i understand its normal for used lens, and is not a huge issue, anyway it was included in the description by ebay seller. But 1 lens is kind of, not sure how to say it, foggy.... when i look in to the monitor i see that around at the middle of the image and down its like a little fog with slightly different color..... how bad is that? is it something that can be fixed?

regards

i went to canon service today and the verdict is really bad. My canon 28-70 L f2.8 is seems like not repairable! 1st its not sharp..... the service guy put some powerful light through the lens and on a chart its was clear that the lens some how lost the sharpness as well for some reason the background of that chart instead of being black it was kind of much much lighter, and also canon service guy offered me to look through the lens while the light was coming through the other end.. and it was clear that there is something inside...... like a glass covered with something....

i am very new to ebay my rating is just 20 (100%)..... but i would like to ask what advice would you give to some one who bought from not the honest seller, as he described his lens being in perfect order....
here is what i bought:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221192814540?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

sellers description was
: Canon EF 28-70mm F2.8 L USM Lens 28 70 2.8 Exc condition !! In excellent + condition. There is no scratches, haze, on the optics !

the 2nd lens i bought from him 20-35 L f2.8 - is good , no problems.... but 28-70 is unfortunately unusable! Seems like he knew about the issue as when i tried to negotiate the price for 28-70 he accepted my offer, but would not want to do the same for 20-35..... what would u advise me ? how should i proceed? 1st time in such situation.....

Regards

You can ask for a full refund if the item is significantly not as described and ebay will ensure you get refunded if you paid via paypal

yep i payed with paypal...., paypal took money from my visa card. It`s nice if ebay will take my side on that meter......

but what is the procedure for a such claim? should i contact the seller at 1st and describe the problems i have with the lens.... and what to do if lets say he will not want to refund..... or its best to contact ebay right away?

regards

Contact seller ASAP and be nice but firm. Include any information you got from Canon if they have it in writing forward a copy to the seller. They have a 100% rating with 173 transactions so thats good. If they don't get back to you promptly then contact Ebay and Paypal. Don't wait to long to get the issue resolved.

If it comes to it, your credit card people will be *much* more aggressive in getting your money back than either Paypal or ebay. That's why I always use my Mastercard as my Paypal funding source. I got burned pretty bad a few years ago and learned my lesson the hard way.

thing is i would like to avoid getting the negative feed back as well.... i am new with rating just 20 and 100% positive, i would like to keep it this way. probably if i ll be too aggressive the guy can give me a negative one.... i am not sure if ebay corrects feedback's for people who`s feedback was not supposed to be negative, but i think now i understand why he asked me at 1st to deal out side the ebay... claiming that ebay %% are huge (i never sold anything my self so i dont know) good thing i refused

i live outside usa and i cant fund my paypal at all, not by bank, not by credit card..... so each time i pay on ebay, i am sent to paypal, i login to my paypal and use my cc to pay..... the only way for me to fund my paypal and see some positive balance insted of 0.00 .... its if some one will pay me....

Call your credit card company and tell them the situation. They will be able to help. Again don't wait to long. I never deal with vendors outside of Ebay. Thats just looking for trouble.

I am sure the lens has got fungus. It happens when the lenses are not kept in moisture controlled place. More than a decade ago I had kept my camera and lens in a lowepro bag and it was lying in one corner of the house touching the wall. It was rainy season and the wall had got damp. After about 20-25 days, I noticed that the camera bag had turned white with fungus. And the lenses had fungus as well. I had to send the lens to Singapore, got it cleaned. The performance was a bit low. And sold off the lens to a customer and gave the service receipt to him for future use.

When there is fungus, they eat up the lens coating. And when the lens coating goes, then there will be more diffraction, all the wavelengths R, G, B etc may not focus at the same point etc etc etc. Means the lens becomes a paper weight or toy for kids. I think your lens has also suffered extensive fungus. It will show up like very fine fern kind of patterns.

I now use dry boxes (for controlling the humidity) of various sizes for my lenses and cameras.

Ebay will not allow the seller to give you negative feedback as he is totally at fault. Don't wait for him to reply open a dispute via ebay immediately you have nothing to lose every thing to gain, Ebay will be on your side.

I know a little about Ebay have a feedback of over 800

Yes, agree. Whilst you can communicate politely with him for resolution, Id get the dispute ball rolling.

yes, i probably have to contact ebay now, as the seller did not replay me yet, and now its a weekend, i dont want to wait till Monday

You should inform Ebay of his request to conduct the transaction externally; they really don't like that. If he stated it through Ebay messages, he's nailed.

Sellers can't give buyers negative feedback anymore. However, they can report buyers who violate policies, which is not the case here. Be careful never to mention feedback when you communicate with sellers.

It seems to me that since you were smart enough to use your Visa card as your funding source, a simple report to Visa should get your money back and then Visa will go nuts on everybody involved to get "their" money back and you'll be out of it with your refund in pocket. My experience with Paypal and ebay was that they are blowing smoke when it comes to getting a refund from a crooked seller who doesn't keep money in his Paypal account.

And as for negative feedback; who cares? Ebay drops it after 12 months and feedback is always disputable. Besides, if you are only a buyer, a negative or two on your feedback is hardly going to prevent you from winning an auction.

seems like the guy is nice , he contacted me today and offered refund.. will see how it goes, it is really a 1st time.

i had 1 strange experience with Visa refund before. I filed it because i payed for the service that company never provided, and after 100s of emails to them over the 2 months they never replayed me back. after that i filed a refund, it took 3 or 4 months to get the money back, but i got it..... it was nice! but the funny thing is after i got the refund, after 2 more months that company started providing the service without even noticing me .... crazy

Got the funds back from seller 3 weeks ago! But i wonder how safe the refund is? is it possible for the seller to claim a refund back? (get a refund for the refund , or something like that...)
