Urgent: Disk Image vs. P2CMS

Ok. Got a feature starting prep in 2 DAYS!

I'm used to the Firestore and just dragging and dropping P2 cards to folders on the desktop in PC and Mac. I have to figure out a secure, practical solution for a two camera shoot using 8gig and 4gig P2 cards.

Questions:
-Is dragging and dropping the contents on a mounted P2 card to a folder using a Mac insecure? This is the first I've heard of this, I've done it a lot and it has worked fine, but am I running a risk? Why?

-Is using Disk Utility to make a disk image of the P2 card a more secure way to copy the contents of the P2 card? It will create an 8gig or 4gig image regardless of how much footage is on the card, so it doesn't save space (and isn't that quick) but is it more secure, practical in your opinion?

-Is P2CMS my best option at this point? It seems to create more files and file shuffling work for me as a DIT on set. Clips in individual folders, folders everywhere, databases, etc. And I still don't have that lastclip.txt file, which I'm a little concerned about. And, of course, the manual's in broken English. So there's that... And I'm also having problems wiping the cards. How the heck do I wipe a card in a mac? Never done this before, always done it in camera.

The production won't spend any more money, so I think Raylight's out.

I really appreciate your opinions. The DP has won two Oscars and been nominated for three more, and he's renting my HVX (don't ask me why), so I'm a little nervous.

The risk in a Mac system appears to be based around not using the write-protect feature on the card. You *must* write-protect the cards before the Mac has a chance to even look at 'em.

P2CMS can be used for the copying with no hassles; you'd select the card files and then don't "ingest" at all, just tell it to export those files to a hard disk. Or you could just as easily drag and drop, or use P2 Genie.

Apple's recommended workflow is to do the disk image.

Thanks Barry,

I really like the P2 software and the P2 Genie. I think the editor (and the producers) want to go with Disk Image.

My main problem now lies in erasing the cards before they get back to the camera. I'll work on it. But I wonder why P2CMS won't let me do it. Very strange.
