Upres Questions.

Okay i have a few questions about uprezing.
I keep seeing peoples videos that are "upres-ed" and i nearly poop myself because of how good it looks.

Here are the specs:
DVX100A
I have Premiere Pro CS3 and AfterEffects CS3 And Instant HD, and Instant HD Advanced.

Questions:
1. Should i set my camera to Squeeze mode or Normal?
2. Settings i should use in Capture/Exporting footage in Premiere Pro?
3. Settings in AE when importing an AVI Movie?
4. Which one? Instant HD, or HD Advanced?
5. Instant HD/hd advanced settings and AE export settings?

Please help! I'd really love to get this kind of quality out of my DVX.

EDIT: I use Youtube when uploading my footage. So i guess what i'm looking for is the best upres settings for Youtube.
I'm also shooting in 60i mode.

Thanks
-Jake

EDIT: I've done alot of experimenting with lots of it and never got a good output. Well i've basically ran all over the internet looking for advice and i've finally made my first "upres" attempt that does look good in my eyes. I'll post a link tomorrow and everyone can tell me what you think.

1.) Squeeze
2.) Standard DV NTSC should work just try to match the quality that's coming out of the camera. You don't want to lose information.
3.) Depends on Instant HD. Look on the Magic Bullet website
4.) Advanced, since it scans other frames and compiles more information
5.)Again, depends on what Magic Bullet Recommends

Don't shoot 60i, shoot any progressive mode, since progressive will have more information. You can't really get a good upres out of 60i (you can but its much more difficult).

The 60i is probably me problem. I need to remember to switch to 30p.
And do you recommend any other programs other than Instant HD. For some reason my After Effects will not render a video right. It is always crashing too. I think i need to reinstall it, but since i am lazy and have no idea where to find my key, then another program would be awesome. (preferrably freeware but every suggestion is appreciated.)

thanks man.

Hey,

Instant HD is a great little tool. If you can't get it to work however, you can try one of my 2 methods.

-Shoot progressive, I always shoot 24pa but thats just me.
- I also shoot detail level at 3 if I know I am going to uprez.
- I also put the coring all the way up to 7
-the easier of the 2 methods is to bring it into your NLE as you would normally and simply export it as and HD 720p file. It's been my experience that it does not uprez to 1080p very well with this method. Try experimenting with different export settings.

second, more complex, but far better results way. Is to get yourself a copy of adobe lightroom and quicktime pro. I use quicktime for it's ease of use.

-Capture your footage as you normally would.
-open the footage in quicktime
-export the file as an image sequence of uncompressed tiff images set to match your frame rate.
-bring in the thousands of images to adobe lightroom.
- You can even colour correct if youd like using all the tools in lightroom and copy the settings to all the frames using the sync settings option in the library view.
- Add some sharpening
- Once that is done batch export all the files into a folder at the desired resolution and file type. Uncrompressed tiff would be ideal, but JPEG does work. IE 1920x1080.
- I also add some export sharpen for screen.
- Wait...this is going to take a while. Extremely resource heavy.
-Once that is done you can import the numbered image sequence straight into your NLE or open it in quicktime first reassemble it as a video and then open it in you NLE.
-Voila you now have an HD VIDEO that has been colour corrected with the sweetness that is lightroom.
- But Adam, there is no sound....
-import the original footage into the project, drop it into the timeline and keep just the audio.
NOW VOILA.

So as you can see the second method takes a little while. Unless I have my laptop on some sort of cooling device it overheats everytime haha.

Instead of using quicktime, wouldn't it be the same to just export the TIFF images from Premiere Pro? I'm don't use quicktime, (nor do i have QT-Pro anyways)...but that should do the same.
And i have CS3 Master collection, so i'm sure i have lightroom.

This looks good though, it's helping alot.

I shot some 30p footage today. This was before you told me about the detail and core settings, so the footage i have is just normal.
I've got it capped up already so as soon as i attempt these methods and it comes out good i'll upload it and post a link to show you how it turned out.

Thanks so much guys...this has been bugging me alot lately haha.
