Uploading two P2 cards, only one 'NO NAME' pops up

here's how i'm uploading my 2 4 gig p2 cards, why is only one 'NO NAME',
popping up on my desktop and can't be found anywhere else, even though
my camera clearly thinks both are connected?

this is what i'm doing:

turn on hvx
under other functions - switch to usb
turn off hvx
under other functions - switch back to 1394
plug in firewire to cam and laptop
mcr mode
hold mcr button,
connection happens
then - only one 'NO NAME' seems to be on the desktop, or anywhere
in the computer.

to get both no names on board i eject the no name i can find.
turn off my cam. turn the cam back on, hold the mcr button down
again, and presto,
this time both no names appear?

its a mystery...

how do i get both to appear the FIRST time???

thanks

sounds like your using a mac...If you want to see both cards use "disk utility" to mount the other card to your desk top. Not exactly sure why only one comes up, but thats your fix.

Thanks Prodigi,
i could find both p2 cards under disk utility -
but one is listed as 'not mounted'
and i still can't find it anywhere.
the annoying thing is that my hvx thinks its mounted,
and i have to switch it off while it still lists 'connected' in the viewer...

and yes you're right,
i am on a mac(book pro)

thanks for trying to help.

please speak up if you've had this same problem.

This is probably bad for some of the components. I'm not entirely sure how stable the HVX and the MacBook Pro are for 'hot-swapping' fiewire or usb devices.

But, whenever I get that happening, I just unplug the Mac end of the cable, let it think about it for a few seconds, and then plug it right back in and they both appear for some reason after that. I keep the HVX on and everything. Mind you, I haven't tried installing the drivers on my macbook pro yet, which might be why both slots don't show up immediatly.

or you might want to try a different firewire port. On my G5, the front port only shows one image. If I plug it into the back of another drive i got out there in the daisy chain then both show up.

In disk utility, there are 2 Icons you can click. The No Name one (which you cannot mount) and the one right bellow. That one lets you mount the disk. Try it.

hey spz,

no only one mounts,
tried it

and prodigy,
can't download one at a time,
cause only one shows,
i'm going to try Symphoics' idea,
wouldn't be surprised if that worked,
& wish i had thought of it!

Never hot-plug an HVX to a Mac, you're just begging for your firewire port to get fried out.

You can try USB mode, although that's not guaranteed to work with a Mac. What's wrong with using the Disk Utility to force both volumes to mount? Seems a lot easier and less expensive than blowing up your firewire port.

Try following the steps in this doc; it's for the P2 Store but it sounds like the same problem.

yeah, i've tried the unplug firewire, replug, and it makes both no names
pop up,
and it seems logical that this isn't a good idea,
as there is a message with a red icon next to it, saying it was
'improperly disconnected',
but it works,
so i've been doing it anyway?

confused by what Barry's saying about frying the mac with the firewire?

the end of my firewire has a usb plug that i put into the mac end,
firewire on the camera end.
isn't that the way i ought to do it?
its been working so far,
is the firewire really going to fry my port????

t

DO NOT. REPEAT DO NOT HOT SWAP.

You will fry your fireports on both the Mac and the cam.

The Mac six pin FW plug carries power.

Put on p2 card in the HVX200 and download it. Power off the HVX200 AFTER DRAGGING THE NO NAME ICON TO THE TRASH,

Disconnect.

Replace the p2 card with the second one.

Connect, power on the HVX200 and copy that one.
