Uploading footage to mac from DVX100p

my standard fire wire doesnt upload footage to both final cut express or imovie, is there another connection cable that will work or is it my camera?
 
FireWire is the only way to capture DV footage from a camera or deck.

Are you connecting the camera before or after you launch FCE/iMovie?
 
i actually tried both, id connect it then try the upload, then wen that didnt work i tried it again, this time trying the connection after i had launched the program
 
You need to have the camera connected and powered on, and set to VTR mode, before you launch your NLE. Check the computer's "About this Mac" and then "More Info." You can then select FireWire to see what the computer sees. Does it recognize the camera?

does that meen it recognizes the camera?
