C100: Updated Ninja Blade/Edelkrone EVF bracket with added Wooden Camera top plate

I was running the EVF bracket from the top hotshoe mount.

I wanted to be able to drop the Blade a little further down (mainly due to old fart near-sight issues), so I thought I'd try the WC top plate as a lower hot shoe mounting option.

So far, it's all good feedback - super solid, the monitor is now exactly where I want it and, as a bonus, the C100 top handle is now so much more solid too with less flex and creak.

No discernible extra weight - and the overall height, with the additional top plate offset, is slightly less than when the Edelkrone sat on top of the C100 handle.

Wooden Camera components required - 1 x top plate and 2 x Hot Shoe mount.

This whole rig is working very well for me - we shot 150 GBs the other day, 8.30am to 6pm. Blade, C100, Lens IS, Micron radio RX, all on one SWIT V Lock with plenty left spare.

Ben.

Ben,
Can you provide a detailed parts list of your rig, including the base and accessories?

Thanks.

Sorry, weighed down with projects, so I'm a bit low on bandwidth at the mo. Take a look at my previous posts and you'll find various threads detailing the kit.

Cheers,

Ben.

Hi Ben,

Did you buy these parts direct from woodencamera in the states or from a UK supplier, just wondering which option would end up cheaper..

Hi Saf.

I got them here in the UK: http://www.videogear.co.uk/Wooden-C...Plate-For-Canon-C100-C300-C500/prod_4781.html

I guess it will depend if you're VAT registered (we are), in which case it makes no sense for us to buy in the USA. We're over there for a month shortly, shooting various projects, but I rarely buy stuff for the business over there, even if it's USA-manufactured, as most stuff is being imported to the UK with economies of scale that offset the import duties (ie, the wholesale discount roughly cancels out the currency exchange and import duty.)

On the other hand, if you're not VAT registered and you're happy to bring stuff back in your suitcase, walk through the customs green channel and avoid payment of VAT and import duty, it probably makes sense - especially on small chunks of aluminium. You may wish to leave the packaging back in the USA, though ;-)

Ben.
