AG-HPX250 users can access a free software download that will improve the operation of their P2 HD handhelds with the addition of Focus-in-Red, a focus assist (color-on peaking and focus bar) that can be used while recording, and Turbo-speed one-push auto focus capability, which ensures the camcorder quickly attains focus. The upgrade is available atwww.pro-av.panasonic.net;the Focus-in-Red and turbo-speed one-push auto focus will be standard in the new AG-HPX250 and AG-AG255 in May and July respectively.

I just checked and the update isn't there yet. But figured since auto focus is such a hotly debated topic here people would want to at least know that an update is coming

Kevin:

Link doesn't work.

"The upgrade is available atwww.pro-av.panasonic.net;the Focus-in-Red and turbo-speed one-push auto focus will be standard in the new AG-HPX250 and AG-AG255 in May and July respectively."

The press release implies that the upgrade "Is Available" but like everything else from Panasonic today we will have to wait. Jan I feel for you, I hope you do not have to take too much crap at NAB because Panasonic once again will be showing there latest and greatest "Under Glass" to be honest I was expecting more.

I see it's not yet available.

Given it's a free update, and firmware based, not hardware based as it is for the 130/160 (turbo boost), this is nice to have.

Can't beat free!
Since they just announced it I'm guessing it might be a day or two or more until it gets released. I'm sure they are busy dealing with everything at NAB.

Definitely looking forward to this upgrade. I love my HPX250, but nailing focus, especially in run-and-gun situations, is near impossible if only relying on the current peaking function. To be sure I have focus while recording, I find I have to zoom all the way in, check focus, and then zoom back out. Not the end of the world, but hopefully these new tools will make quick focusing in more precise. Now if they'd only add the ability to use expanded focus while recording, I'd be really happy. I find expanded focus useless if you can't use it while recording. Still, very happy about these updates. I hope the link to download them is up soon. Having never upgraded a Panasonic camera, I also hope there are some clear instructions.

I would be surprised if the update was released for download before it becomes standard on the HPX-250, which is in May.

Maybe so, but the press release says that the upgrade is available.

Wonder why Panasonic indicated current availability.
