HPX250: Update available

Same here -- updated my HPX250P a short time ago and enabled Red Focus. I've played with the Push Auto a little but can't really tell if it is any faster than before.

Use the new update fora shoot today...and i love Red Focus...so easy to focus with...thanks Panasonic.

Let's try to do something with the capacity to have LCD + EVF + HD-SDI in the same time now... :)

updated and tested focus in red, nice feature!

I wish those .pdf files were not password protected so I could save them to my harddrive.....doh...

Also the P2status logger. Whats the sense? Did anybody go through these hoops?

No, I didn't bother to use the P2Status logger, I just did the update the same way I have done them in the past with my HVX200. For what it is worth, I was able to save the PDF files locally, I right-clicked on the links using Internet Explorer 9 and used Save As.

I used Red Focus last night for a rehearsal I was recording and discovered one slightly annoying property -- if you switch to playback mode to review a clip, Red Focus turns off, so you need to manually re-enable it by pressing Focus Assist again. Not a big deal, but it would be better if it stayed enabled.

I had the same issue with downloading I use a Mac. I used Firefox and it worked fine, Sarfi wouldn't do it.

Downloaded the software and upgraded without any hassle at all. Having said that I have no idea what P2 Logger is all about - did not bother with that part of the process. The Red feature is excellent. The HPX250 really is a superb camera. Been shooting the last few days in all situations, the pictures look really nice.

Didnt think Red would make that much difference, but WOW no I can see what is in focus no guess work. As far as Turbo Focus, hummm cant see a difference could be using it wrong.

I use a HDMI viewfinder and unfortunately neither zebras nor focus in red are passed via HDMI :-(

Wouldnt this be an awfully nice FW update? *wink*

didnt know there was no red focuce in hpx250, its in ac160
There are things the 160 does that the 250 doesn't, and there are things the 250 does that the 160 doesn't. They're not the same camera (even though they share a near-identical body, the internals are different).

How do we do this update without going through the P2status logger? do we just download the update to an sd card and update it in the camera. Does the camera have to be connected to the pc? Thanks for you help.

Yes, put the firmware on a SD card, no PC needed other than to download the firmware from Panasonic. Then follow the instructions to update the camera. Make sure you have a fully charged battery to be safe, the update seems to take about 20 minutes.

Didn't test this, but does the focus in red work while recording, or does it switch off like before when recording after using focus assist?

One thing that I found interesting was the use of red focus with the black and white viewfinder. I found that to really be a nice way to go focus wise.

Sincerely,
Bill
