Update 60d Firmware directly from 1.0.5 to 1.0.9?

After formatting the card from the camera, put Canon's FIR on the root of the SD card. After you have the FIR on the card, start the camera (not before).

before I do this, all boxes are UNTICKED in EOScard, is this correct?

If you tick boxes in EOSCard, you must have autoexec.bin on the card.
For the FIR, you must not have the boxes ticked (just format and copy the FIR, don't touch EOSCard).

Don't hurry, read the install guide, understand how things work and be patient.

ok we have progress, currently installing 1.1.0 again. I think part of the problem was that the camera probably wasn't hanging on the firmware update screen like I thought, it just took 10 seconds or so. After reading in the guide, when it crashes pull the battery QUICK, I have been doing this perhaps too early.

Once I have done this will I be able to put the other (currently buggered up) cards in the camera and format them, or should I look at them with EOScard first and make sure that all boxes are unticked, and just the stock firmware is on the card?

Despite all this.. I think I'll end up putting ML back on afterwards as I think this was all caused by something I did wrong.. correct?!

but I was in love with ML until this happened... what caused it? Is it likely to happen again? I'm going to get all cards back to stock and then attempt to install again.
Where can I paypal you a gesture of my thanks for your help?

It was caused by a bug in the installer. With Aug28 or later it won't happen again. If you don't run upgrade firmware (and use EOSCard instead), it won't happen again. It only happens after the installer crashed.

But the symptoms are only noticed when you try to use stock firmware.

Glad you got it sorted. My PayPal is is here.

Tip: if you had crashes, this autoexec should fix a lot of them: https://bitly.com/ml-sep12

ok so just to confirm, the autoexec you just dowload and replace the one in the 28th august folder that I just downloaded? Then in turn copy this to all of the cards in the usual way?
Or is it for WHEN you have a problem, you should then replace the autoexec with that one?

Just to confirm is it best instead of formatting card, to just erase all images on card? Also is it ok to copy the .cfg file across from one card to the others, to save me going through the menu on every card and selecting my settings?

That's it. Unzip the aug28 archive and copy the new autoexec over it.

It's best to format the card (but you will have to copy ML again from the PC). If you don't have the PC, just erase all images.

It's OK to copy the CFG from one card to the others.

Ok so i've just gone through formatting all cards in camera which now has stock 1.1.0 on it, and all work fine.

I am now going to put them in the PC and copy the contents of the Aug 28th folder (with that other autoexec that you linked to in there replacing the original) and I will put the card in and use firmware update.

This doesn't involve EOScard at all though so if there is a better way of getting Aug28 on all of the cards please let me know now.

This is the last request I promise...

Have just paid you some $$$ by the way, thanks again

You can prepare a folder with all files (those from aug28, new autoexec and your config) on your computer, and copy that on all the cards. The quickest way is to use EOSCard after you copy the files, though (it takes less than FW update from the camera, I think).

Anyway.. EOSCard vs FW update is more like a personal preference.

Thanks for the $$$, they just arrived :)

ok and all i need to do on the EOScard is tick the top two boxes and click save?

Just tried that and it seems to have worked.. so the EOScard part just replaces having to do firmware update. Seems much quicker as I can prepare each card 100% on the PC where as with firmware update I need to finish it off in camera each time, is that right?

perfect, all sorted, 60d fully loaded with ML, 5d fully loaded with AJ 5.9 (prob won't use it) let's see how tomorrow pans out.

Thanks very much

Let me know how it goes. Before using, try each option which you will use; there may be hidden quirks.

Right :)

BTW, I can say my 550D was pretty unstable a few months before the first install of Magic Lantern. It turned out it was because I wasn't powering off the camera, but letting it on standby. I've got crashes (so I had to take the battery out) and it corrupted around 20 photos. Since then, I started to turn the camera off after each use, and had no more problems.

Yeah I always turn it off.. I think.. Standby is screen off but power set to on, right?

Just before I leave, just had a 400x transcend 32gb card delivered..theres no known issues with 32gb cards is there?

I know users who have 32 and 64 GB cards without problems. I use 16GB (also 2GB for testing), but I'll get a 64GB and an eye-fi soon.

For quick response, contact me by mail (I get notifications there).
