up-rezzing to HD

Note that converting 4:3 aspect to 16:9 aspect display is not uprezzing. Uprezzing to HD involves enhancing pixel resolution as well as the aspect conversion.

I think you misunderstood ncje's posts. Are you familiar with disjecta's method using Photozoom? It's not about just changing the aspect ratio. ncje is actually uprezzing the footage for use as 16:9 footage. For more info on the subject try here.

I have an FX1 but I don't have the hardware needed to edit effectively in HD , so I usually just shoot HDV and then downcorvert it it SD.

Why not just use proxy footage for the edit? There are intermediate's for HDV for Premiere, Vegas and probably most of the other NLE's. Seems like a waste to shoot in HDV just to downconvert it. Well, I guess since your end product would be SD it doesn't really matter. I just wanted to throw the info about proxy footage out there. If you already knew about it then sorry for the repeat. :D

I wasn't refering to ncje's comments I was replying to sean90201 and the good points made by disjecta.

I am very familiar with the Photozoom Pro process and Instand HD. I was clarifing that many newbies who ask this question confuse aspect conversion with enhancing image resolution to HD pixel size of 1080 x 720 or larger.

DV 4:3 and DV 16:9 are both 720 x 480. But when you convert the 4:3 to 16:9 you loose vertical resoultion. Using Photozoom or Instantant HD you can preserve and actually enhance the pixels as you scale the video for 16:9 display but the image is still only 720 x 480 pixels

The same is true when you are going from DV 720 x 480 to 16:9 1080 x 720 HD. In this case you are streatching pixels to fit more screen real estate.

With HD or HVX you have to down convert and throw pixel resoultion away to produce an SD DVD. But the down convert has better residual quaility than stretching pixels for upconverts.

What's the difference between a 21" LCD at 1080 x 720 and a 42" LCD at 1080 x 720. Both have the same pixel resolution. The only difference is the size of the pixels not the number for twice the screen real estate. Artifacts will be more noticable on the bigger screen.
