Up coming information regarding new firmware update for the F3

I asked them to consider implementing a remote protocol for servo lens control (zoom, iris, etc.), potentially using the spare port the 3d link uses. I think this greatly increases the practical applications of the F3 servo lens for jibs, vehicle mounts and other remote mounting applications. It also seems like something that is realistically possible in firmware.
They were using some sort of protocol at IBC with this box... not a very ergonomic test but it was working well with their SCLZ-18x140 ?

Interesting. Googling CBK-DCB01 turns up nothing, so this would seem to be a product under development. Looks like it has pass through for the other spare port functions.

Yes, it was a bit frustrating because nobody on the Sony stand seemed to know anything about it, despite having more than one around, (the other was in a glass case?). I've not found any other info either. This was connected to the spare port on an F3 with the 18-252mm lens. It worked really well - nice progressive feel to both the zoom and focus rate.

Sorry about the rubbish iPhone photo... you can just see it has four other connections. 1/ At the bottom looks like a passthrough as you say 2/ Is already connected to the focus control which was mounted on the other pan bar 3&4/ Above... look the same as the remote/iris sockets you get on the bottom of many ENG type servo lenses?

Thanks for this Paul, interesting, I hope something like this is in the works. I know many of us have a diverse wish list for any probable firmware upgrades for our F3's......the ability to use an external zoom control is on the top of my list and I hope if it does materialize we would be able to use any third party zoom controls, ( like the Microforce ), rather than having to buy a Sony brand controller. Dreaming I guess!

Duke, yep--you're right. I see that they announced yet ANOTHER line of new cameras. They're starting to feel like Canon! Maybe soon, you'll be able to custom-order your options like a new car!

I assume you're talking about the NEXEA50UH, which is basically an NEX stills camera with a body that's a semi shoulder mount. Less than semi shoulder actually as the shoulder pad slides back which puts the camera out in front. You'll be able to hold it still for about 20 minutes before your arms get tired. B&H is offering them at $3,600. Delivery 10/15/12 I think. Kind of a slow aperture on the stock lens to keep the cost low.

Actually, I wouldn't mind being able to custom order the options that I want in a new camera rather than buying something that is close but never quite right.

Any rumblings on this update? I'm with DiegoCerva...please get us 1080p 60fps! Honestly I think they could also re-sort the menus as well...sort of confusing after the previous updates.

I repeat .... patience.

Ned

Unfortunately I couldn't wait any longer, I jumped shipped and went RED :-o I have to say, the RED Scarlet/Epic camera sucks in low light, but it damn well makes up for it in image. I'll be curious to see what you guys get from the Sony world.

Out of interest, what couldn't you wait for?

An updated F3 or the F5 with 4K, I just know that Sony will let out the F5 with 4K only to then say you need to shell out $8,000 more for their 4K recorder, so RED was actually cheaper for me.

They did say info on the FS700 4k upgrade would be out next month. After paying for the upgrade you'd still need the recorder.

Yeah exactly, and I wasn't about to give up S-log for 4K... I wanted both, so the scarlet was a go for me. But I still love the F3 footage, super clean no noise image is pretty much only in F3 and Alexa, I can't seem to find another camera that can do that well and stay cinematic looking.

Why would you need S-Log if you have raw? I'm pretty sure the 4K output is raw.

I almost drank the RED koolaid and sold my F3 to get 4k, but then realized the F3 is way more versatile than a RED cinema camera and when I get to where people want me to shoot RED I will just rent it or buy if it gets to that point.

The fs700 is a neat but I wonder what the catch is aside from 4k upgrade cost and ext 4k recorder cost.

So far there is no upgrade to allow you to shoot 4k on the FS700. Those who have them have paid $9k for an FS100 with a possible upgrade. I presume its also AVCHD too.

Its probably just me, but I still abide by the phrase that "resolution doesn't tell a story." I've always thought the F3 had a more organic looking image than any other camera than the Alexa. I'm not dissing a Red, so don't be upset. Its only an opinion.
