Where the heck are you buying your lenses? 50mm 1.8 Canon costs 99.00. Is that the lens you mean?

OK, we need some clarification here. If the problem only happens when zooming, it's because of the lens. The kit lens doesn't zoom without the brightness flickering.

If you are having these issues when not zooming, it may be the firmware issue that I have heard about. If not, than something is set to auto, or your camera has a problem.
