Unstable!

i'm a complete newbie at filmmaking so i bought one of those $30 tripods for my A1. now everytime i try to shoot something (especially close-ups and DOF) it is too damn unstable!!!!!:furious3: becasue of this, i have 200 dollars set aside just for a tripod. Could you guys please direct me to a site that sells PROFESSIONAL tripods for about $200 bucks and if you now a good/very stable tripod for around $200, could you please tell me the name and where you bought it? thanks!

First, make sure that OIS (optical image stabilization) is turned off when you're on a tripod since the system might interpret your pan and such as unwanted movement and try to correct those.

Second, I'm sorry to sound uptight, but for $200 you won't be able to buy a professional tripod, except maybe used (if you're very lucky). If you just plan to use one for still shot then the one recommended above will work fine, but for smooth movement you're looking at $500 minimum for a true (low-end) fluid head system. Most people here recommend the Bogen 501 or 503 head with either the 3046 or the 351MVB2 leg.

As with everything else, buy what you can afford, but ultimately you're going to discover that what you end up with for $200 isn't good enough and you'll spend more money to upgrade. Better to save up and buy it right the first time.

And that's at a bare minimum. Ive used libec before and in fact actually have an ls22 here that I use when Im shooting from a shitty place I dont want to risk my main set up. Have to say for A1 alone it does a pretty good job. Still a little high in price at $399 on special.

Still if you can afford a bit more I would recommend it. Id say that the ls22 head is better than a 501.
