Unsharp pickture whit DVX100A

I am making quite a few recordings using DVX100A at our small local theater, but I am not quite satisfied with the sharpness and color of the shots. We are using a cheaper Panasonic video cam as camera no. 2 for multicam video, but this is almost a better picture quality that the DVX100. The DVX100 quality is probably because we have mostly been using the automatic settings for wb etc, but maybe it can also be affected by the squeeze mode we use to get 16:9 ratio on the 4:3 camera.
Any good suggestions to improve the quality of our theater shootings?

Are you using squeeze mode with 60i (Progressve: OFF)? That'll kill your images in a hearbeat. Only use Squeeze with 30p or one of the 24p modes.

What are your other settings, by the way? Include Detail Coring and V.Detail. It's also hard to know exactly what you're seeing without a sample video, so if you can post a short clip that may help other forum members to see what might be improved.

As for colors, have you taken a look at the Scene Settings thread in the Technical-DVX forum? Lots of good suggestions in there, though some folks (including me) prefer to shoot as neutral as possible and use color correction and color grading to get the desired look.
