Universal viewfinder support suggestion

Hi Guys,
I am just putting this out there. There has been a lot of discussion around this on various different threads. This does not reflect my preference for any one particular manufacturer. You are all great and I love you all !

This is my two cents:

I feel that something similar to the new Redrock viewfinder mounting piece needs to happen. Like the RR, it needs to be made of METAL. Plastic solutions will not last five minutes in some of the places I shoot. Adhesive, velcro, and rubber bands are half measures. Israeli arms are not ergonomic. One of the problems of the RR as best I can tell is that it forces one to always be mounted on a rod style baseplate.

I think this new viewfinder support should have a mounting plate which is screwed into the bottom of the camera and alternate anti-twist pins which can fit with different camera bodies like the RR DSLR baseplate . I think the mounting plate should be flat, low profile and provide an alternate thread mount below for putting on a tripod. The actual viewfinder support should be quick release-able from this baseplate and be able to slide within the clasping mechanism in order to be able to regulate the distance of the viewfinder to the camera body. I also think it needs to have a collar which is adjustable for different sorts of eyepieces and that should have some kind of tissue or non abrasive material on its interior.

And folks, something that doesn't cost a fortune either !

Voila! Tear me to pieces if you like, but if you agree with me say so loud and clear so that we might be heard !

Thanks everyone

Any restrictive viewfinder such as the one proposed is only good for shooting in on position. What about the low angle shots? or the shots where an off-axis glance at the LCD is enough to confirm composition? These restrictive viewfinders will make those shooting styles impossible.

That's why I proposed a quick release off of the baseplate. For low angle shots you either use the camera's LCD or a monitor.

I would like that idea if I had 3rd hand to hold the base plate and the finder. Otherwise, it's just more trouble than good

On the contrary that viewfinder solution is not UNIVERSAL. It is bolted onto the Hoodman which normally only costs 79 USD, but his add-on is 120 USD on top (making 199 USD total), so I think that's more expensive than the Redrock which will cost about 50 USD and can also be used with the Hoodman viewfinder. So what about other DIY viewfinders or the Z-finder? At least both supports are metal...Redrock might come through also for more universality, but there will still be the problem of having to use it only with it's DSLR baseplate (which costs 195 USD) for rails..

All of this is why I am asking for an inexpensive well designed UNIVERSAL system...
