C100: unhappy with 5d mkiii.. is c100 for me

The canon guys said it was indeed down to dust being sacked in and the sensor being much harder to clean than dslr. The less knowledgeable guy said off the record as long as you use canon glass it'll be fine. Totally contradictory information then ...

I was going to ask somebody about the Tokina with the 70d to see if it worked. That's a shame to hear. 18nm isn't wide enough, what are the other c100 wide options?

The 11-16 is great on the C100. Again, my post is referencing the AF feature only. Also, don't you have the 16-35 already?

The wide options for the C100 are the same wide options for any Canon APSC or S35 sensor-based camera. There are probably a hundred threads in dvxuser alone that answer this question.

I have the 11-16...very sharp lens!

The only problem I have ever had was when it was raining, but I wasn't changing lenses. The lens wasn't weather proof. The camera stopped communicating with the lens and I got an error message on the LCD display. I assume something shorted out in the camera. It wasn't lens dependent. After about an hour of letting the camera dry out, everything was fine. After that event, I just completely stopped worrying about hot swaps as I figure Canon must have built in at least a few failsafes.

Yep, just had the same thing happen while shooting with snow on the camera. I'm really careful to keep it dry, bagging it and going so far as to have tape ready to cover up the air vents if the shot puts me where it might get wet (I shoot in sub freezing temps, so I'm not worried about overheating). The camera had some snow fly onto it and some of that melted by the lens mount. The lens communication thing is just that…a little moisture on the contacts between the lens and mount. I just wiped it dry, restarted, and the error went away.

yes I have the 16-35 but thats not wide enough for me on the 1.53x crop. I meant I wonder what other wide options might be out there that will work with the AF feature. Perhaps the canon 10-22 although it's not an f2.8.

My plan is to hire the c100 and use it in real conditions. I've found out all of the info I need (and yes, it took 8 pages.. is that really a problem?) in this thread thanks to you guys, now I just need to use and decide.

No... It took 9 pages.

I ve used the canon 10-22 a couple of times with my 70D and I d say it doesnt work well with the AF system (slow and very noisy) so I guess the same will be with the C100.
From all the lenses I have tried, I d say best are the two STMs and very close is the sigma 18-35...even at f1.8!

yeah canon said the AF would work even better at wider aperture (they had an f4-f5.6 lens on it in the demo) because it'll be easier to grab whats meant to be in focus. Real shame the 11-16 wont work with it as I love the 16-35 on the glideam (I use it at 16-24ish all the time) so the 11-16 would be a nice replacement.
