C100: unhappy with 5d mkiii.. is c100 for me

I've just heard this on a c100 youtube review "some c300's experience failure when swapping lens so you should power down the camera before swapping glass"

Is this the case?

I always power down. Only takes 30 seconds out of your shooting time so better to be safe than sorry!

Also, to answer your first question - yes, the C100 is the camera for you. I used a 7D for 3 years and the thought of going back to that now...urgh. The C100 is an amazing camera for the price.

I know I sound massively fussy but the crop factor, having to shutdown to change lens (I do this honestly every 3-4 mins at a wedding) and no control of shutter with the wheel have pushed me towards the no :( Unless this AF blows me away on Tuesday or a salesman works his charm, I think I'm out..

The camera takes 4 seconds to boot up. Powers down even faster. It's not really a big deal.

I'll tell you this Tik. Once you shoot with the C100 you will have a hard, VERY HARD time shooting anything on a Dslr no matter what the sensor size is. If you're worried about the power down of the lens change please keep in mind all the other speed benefits the C100 gives you. ND, low light, load and loads of custom buttons, waveform, XLR, far better battery life, far more ergonomic, dual recording, quick WB, and an IMAGE that just smokes the 5d series.

cheers dustylense. I think renting it for a weekend seems to make sense.. I've asked enough questions.. it's time to see if it's love or hate. I really hope its love..

It takes about 2 sec to change shutter speed with the C100 (using the little joystick at the back of the hand grip).

thats one thing I'm keen to try out on Tuesday, if so then all is not lost. The 4 second start up time doesn't sound like it'd be an issue but at the speed I need to change lenses sometimes it might be, I think it'll just mean changing the way I shoot.
The c100 certainly has a sharper but more 'traditional' looking image compared to the narrow DOF of the FF sensor. Can I learn to love this 'normal' look no matter how sharp it is. I'm not sure

stick with the 5d3 or 5d2's and wait for a c100 mkii thats my dream camera.. lets you change lenses on the fly, assign the grip wheel to ISO/shutter/aperture and perhaps has a full frame sensor... maybe I'm being slightly unrealistic!

You can change all those settings in seconds using the grip... You really need to try the camera I suppose so you can see why it's everything you want :)

The only real bad points I have read have been about the EVF and lack of Slow-Motion.
I would have had two by now only or that.

I wonder will they go the way of adding a better evf and 720-50/60p through firmware and call it a C105.

The viewfinder is useless. The LCD screen isn't too bad. Add a Z-finder to it and it's decent. Better still get an external EVF and it's still a reasonably priced camera.

The slow motion work around isn't had bad either. 95% of people wouldn't even question its quality.

I hear you Joe....I am really blown away by the images coming from the camera....I am just waiting until after NAB....see the lay of the land and if there is nothing announced around the C100 then I will sell my Sony Ex3 and buy a C100 and a Kinotehnik EVF.

The viewfinder is useless.

Perhaps we should clarify this. Most people would agree that the view finder is useless for 'focusing'. Having said that, after a couple of days forcing myself to use it I found I could actually focus with it pretty darn accurately. Most people seem to try it and give up pretty quickly. Like anything, once you understand it's characteristics you can generally work with it.

It's certainly not useless if you're only trying to frame with it - it's perfectly adequate for that.

Would I prefer that it stuck out further and had a nicer eye cup? Absolutely, but its a hell of a lot better than no viewfinder at all when you really need one and nothing else will do, including help stabilise a hand held camera when needed in a hurry.

Slo-mo can be achieved with shooting 60i and trust me, it looks pretty darn good. Better than any Dslr 720p slo-mo. Sure, the EVF could be better, but it also works.

I don't power down my C100 to change lenses. I've never heard of anyone posting that they've had a problem with the C100 while changing lenses on the fly.

+1
I never power down my c100 when I change lenses. I'm doing the same as my 5d. No problem! I change a lot!

this gives me hope then.. does anyone know the technical reason for canon telling us not to do this? And also what would happen should something break as a result of it in terms of the manufacturers warranty (even if you told them you don't change lens while its turned on..)
