Underwater tracking shot- Test clip

Greetings all,

Another fun underwater shoot went down recently. I'm cutting the piece now but I threw up a sample clip to show a potential client. I"ll have the whole select cut up and put up in a couple of days. Just wanted to get some feedback on this. It was shot on DV... 1/500 shutter, B-Press and usual low noise settings. The rest of the piece really should shine along side this...

cheers

EDITED: Now I have a few selects from the shoot and a bit of Mazzy Star for background flava. It's uploading now but you'll be able to check it out here:

Thanks Jester. I believe that I have the best housing as it's a custom built housing built to accomodate my fisheye.. and because it's the most reasonably priced PRO housing you can get. Jim Bailey from Sea Research made it for me custom. You can check him out here: www.waterhousings.com I have pictures of the actual housing on my server here: http://www.electriccowtheater.com/WATER/photos /

He will build it to whatever you want. Custom controls and he builds them to be able to take a sever pounding.. and they are modular and he gives you replacement O-rings, front port and extras of all of the little things that can wear out. It's also the ownly housing I know that has a tripod plate built in. I use it for more than just underwater stuff.. use it for when I don't want my camera in harms way.. and when I'm shooting in full on hail or rainstorms. It's the sweetest thing ever.. and he'll custom build it for around 2K.. and it fits my fisheye. Don't know of the Gates doing that.. and that's such a heavy SOB anyway. My housing is only 8.5 pounds.. the gates is around 30 pounds and they charge way way too much for it.

Jim even built one for a friend to accomodate his video transmitter so the client can watch from the boat or the shore.. Pretty slick....

I do rent shoot for clients down here, but haven't rented it out as it'll get beat up and there's a real learning curve to shooting water stuff, but It's a hell of a lot of fun...

LOL... Industry secret.. Actually, was just simplest method. I wore my lifevest and had a rope tied to it and a friend pulling me back. We did it as a side shot and behind too... the rear behind shots look sick.... and we did some directly underneath him that turned out pretty nice but was harder to track along with him. Turned out to look pretty good and was really simple.

nice, that sounds fun
Did anybody at the pool see this going on?
I am sure it would have been a funny site for most people.
Put the footage looks awesome.
I email Jim at waterhousing.com and he got back to me right away.
hoping to get one of these this summer and now that you have said that it has a tripod plate built it makes it even better, I can think of a bunch of times when it could come in really handy for some shots in really dusty and dirty conditions if I wanted the elements to get shot right into the lens.

Would anything bad happen if you jump from out of the water into the water with the camera in the housing? Cause that would look real cool

I have a bunch of that already... This housing has been thrown off boats at 50mph... taken 10 foot surf right down on it.... I've jumped off the mast of a ship with it too. Keeps on ticking..

here's a couple of shoots to check out:
