Underrated flicks

i swear i thought me and my brother were the only people in the world who've even heard of this movie. i saw it when it first came out. i love it. i think it's one of the funniest movies of the time (and still). i highly recommend it to anyone who grew up in the 80s/familiar with 80s pop-culture.

it's so sad that all the parody films they do nowadays don't even come close in terms of hilarity.

Another great comedy film: "The Onion Movie", or " News Movie".

Brilliant humor. Love the "Criminal goes for a job" and the "Black man's association's critique" on that film. Intelligent humor! And that Britney lookalike...

The Rules of Attraction - yeah, the filmmaking was showy to the point of being a distraction, but it's a fun flick to watch for technique.

Breaker Morant
Breaker Morant (great movie) is part of my South African colletction which starts with Zulu then Breaker Morant and followed by The Power of One then Cry, the Beloved Country.

Breaker Morant and Gallipoli were indictments on how the Brits used their colonials as scape goats.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (unlike the TV show which took itself FAR too seriously) was played for laughs.

and

Just One of the Guys (the female version of Tootsie)

Yeah, Zulu is great stuff. Those were real Zulu guys in the film, too. Probably descendants of the men who fought the actual battle. Also one of the first really 'modern' sounding scores, by John Barry.

I've seen it often enough that I know Men of Harlech by heart. Great regimental song even if the words are not quite faithful to the original.

I ate this movie up like candy, I guess because I fit the demographic, was in college at the time. I'd still probably enjoy it. I think it'll always sustain some level of appreciation among 20-somethings.

i second 'kiss kiss bang bang'. it was a good movie. robert downey jr. and val kilmer.
...and Angela Lindvall's cameo! come on man! Hotness.

Here's a random list I pulled together when glancing over some of the movies in my collection...

Waking Life
CQ
Punch Drunk Love
Sexy Beast
They Live
Three O-Clock High
Kids
Gentlemen Broncos

Nemesis (90's B-movie) loved that as a kid
Pee Wee's Big Adventure (Burtons 1st ever movie, amazing)
The Goonies
Super Mario Bros

how is the goonies underrated?

i don't think super mario bros was made with the intention of being a 90s b movie. so i guess it was a failure.
the game at least as i see it

a fantasy adventure where a character goes to another world/place, gains magic powers, fights villain creeps, goes to dungeons, fights a dragon to save a princess is a classic 80s sword and sorcery video game, or a classic sword and sorcery story in general. they missed the mark by a mile.

what happened to goonies 2?

Pee Wee's Big Adventure wasn't Tim Burton's 1st movie, he has 2 prior...but it was definately a calling card, and a great one imo.
