How good does Super8 look on miniDV?

If you telecine Super8 to miniDV, what does it look like?

I'm thinking of shooting a film on super8 and telecining it to miniDV and then finishing the film on FCP.

Has anyone done this before?

How does Super8 hold up on miniDV?

Super8 looks great on MiniDV as long as you get a good telecine done of it. For that to happen you either need someone who really knows what they are doing and have good equipment to do it, or go to a company that actually scans super8 film.

Why shoot super8? Shoot super8 because it's fun, challenging, and it's not that expensive.

i have the canon 814 and shot a silent minute film on it.

developing, telecine and color correction only costs me 140 for like 10 minutes of footage.

not a bad price at all.

I've had my best (read: most fun) filming experiences just walking around NYC with my yashica super 8. The weight and ergonomics of some these cameras are just perfect for handheld shooting. I wish handycams took more design cues from 60s and 70s Super 8s. Enjoy!

My Super8 camera also doubles as an eye-catcher; it gets way more interested folks around than an HVX :)

I hope Scarlet is a 2k "Super8" cam. If so, they'll be up in the same ranks as the folks who brought us Velcro and Zip Lock baggies.

there are no ups or downs on using any medium what-so-ever! it all depends on what look you want. just because HDV looks better then DV doesn't mean you should always choose HDV.

WHY SUPER 8 OVER DV????
Because SUPER 8 has a dream-like quality and tone to it that DV could and never will match.

Remember back in the eighties, early nineties, when indy filmmaking meant shooting on super-8? Remember all the hype and buzz around films that came out, shot on super-8 (direct to video -- the newest market at that time). Remember the gear mags dedicated to super-8 filmmaking, and all the ads in American Cinematographer?

Good times...

Check out pro8mm.com they cut down the latest 35mm film like the kodak Vision stuff and load it into 8mm loads. It is very nice

Go to www.moviestuff.tv and check out some of the samples.

MiniDV has more than enough res to hold all the info in a Super8 frame.

I can't seem to find any super8 samples on that Movie Stuff site (just a free demo DVD you can order). But what a cool company! I wanna work for them. I just asked my dad where our old super8 camera is and he said he threw it out. Doh!
