Undercover DVX

I'm doing a documentary and need to be undercover at one point. I'm thinking the best way is to costomize my backpack and place a one-way mirror over the camera lens. Obviously this will cut the amount of light coming into the camera by 50%, but if I want to use the DVX, what other choice do I have. Any suggestions would be welcome.

And for many reasons I can't use alternative cameras (pinhole cameras etc.)

Will it be obvious in the documentary that the shots were done while undercover? I know that if they say "undercover camera" before they show this shakey black and white footage with bad sound i'm instantly in forgive mode. In which case a smaller DV cam would suffice.

I once watched a movie where the guy just carried the camera around on a strap under his arm. It may not work with the dvx, but with a cheap small dv camera. Just strap it over your shoulder with the cam between your arm and ribs. Put a jacket on (weather permitting :) ) and you may be able to walk around a bit incognito.

You could buy a mini/pinhole camera and run it into your DVX and record in "VCR" mode. You can find these in the surveillance section of camera sites.

you also could pick up a gs500 and film it in cinema mode and crop it so that its not widescreen...looks kinda close to dvx footage ad a prettty small cam
