Uncompressed Capture Card for WinXP?

Sorry Elton i need to correct my self here when i made my last post.
What i ment was, There will not a big visual difference between raw componant output of the canon and HDccam.

here is an interesting link, although the tests were done on an xlh1 via sdi,
my point is sdi or componant capture gives damm good reults compared to higher end cameras.
as we all know the ccd from the A1 ans h1 are the same.

I'd tend to agree that the differences aren't huge, and when you consider price it seems ridiculous how well the Canon holds up. Compared to compressed HDCAM, a Canon A1/G1/XL-H1 definitely makes up some ground if you can actually attain the added color sampling from the uncompressed output.

You're talking about a ADC (Analog to Digital) with a higher calculation precision, but the A1 analog output is (most likely) sourced from an 8 bit quantized digital (YUV 4:2:2) signal, so quality of the imagery isn't likely to be signifigantly different when capturing from either card because the camera's signal is the (mostly) limiting factor.

If you're seriously contemplating shooting tethered from the analog output, you'd really be better off with a analog to SDI converter box and an SDI capture card. (DL Extreme) You just can't get very long *quality* cable runs from analog connections and quality degrades quickly on reasonably long cable runs. (from the capture station--do you really want the computer 6-10 ft away from the camera all the time?)

What does it take to capture uncompressed without being tethered to a workstation, like say in the field. Also is there a device that makes it possible to captureuncompressed 4:2:2 from the A1 with a macbook Pro?

Thanks for that, the AJA Io HD seems like a pretty good solution, but is that how the pro's do it? I keep reading about the use of a deck in the field but have not yet understood the advantages of using one. Why or how would you use a deck in the field to record uncompressed?
Decks are so pricey they must have more use than just saving the use of your camera

Back to the Intensity pro for a moment. My firewire jack on my XH-A1 broke. So I'm looking for alternative solutions for capturing at the moment.

My two current solutions seem to be either buying a Canon HV30 ($750)and using that as a capture deck or buying and Intensity Pro ($350) and capturing from the cameras componant output to the computer. It would be cheaper, but would it work and would the quality be as good as from firewire?
