"Unboxing" a Glidetrack SD

Having now owned a Canon 550D for a couple of months I thought it was about time to make a video that would involve a little more than just documenting how "wonderful" my children are.

I still haven't a complete enough kit to shoot a drama or music video, so decided on attempting a "unboxing" video. I wanted to make something a little bit more involved and less on-the-fly than the average video of it's kind, so took my time with the unpacking.

I must say that it was hard to refrain from ripping through the packaging and setting it up in quick time! This is a toy I've been wanting to play with for some time.

Here's my first cut:

Much of the sound was re-recorded on a zoom H4n after the main shoot as the house was full of children making children noises.

I've also been having a problem encoding using a qtr file out of avid, so the colours here are a little washed out. I haven't attempted any grading on this cut.

Even though it's washed out it's kind of a nice look--consistent in any case! All that coverage made for a really nice video, the pacing was very crisp. Well edited sir!

Thankyou.

The sound of the front handles were a combination of audio from the 550D and a recording made the next day using the Zoom h4n. It's one of my fave bits too.

I'm hoping to add to the mix if I get the time.

Paul, did Avid throw up a message along the lines of not being able to do a qtr on long GOP?
I used to get that on HDV until I transcoded to DNxHD.
Dave

Hi Dave,

No messages from Avid regarding QTR.

All the .mov files were transcoded to DNxHD with RGB colour. Then when I use the QTR in Sorenson, or Media Encoder the colour ends up washed out.

I've tried changing the qtr export from RGB to 601/701 which has had some effect, with this upload being the closest to the original, but it's still not great.

It's frustrating.

yeah, amazed that i actually just watched an entire unboxing video without skipping around. loved the clint mansell too =D

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but that might be the nerdiest thing I have ever watched, haha, good job!

The first "unboxing" video shot like a real video! Nicely done. Excellent eye. And the editing is spot on - enough time for interesting details but not too much to be boring. Very sharp!

Regards,

Dan.
