I have downloaded the P2 drivers and when i go to file/import the Panasonic P2 option is not available.

Yes i do have effect factory installed, the only way I have been able to import the footage is with the camera and log and transfer.
what I can not import are the mxs files or raw files like a few people call them.

I hope that helps out

You do not import P2 files anymore. Use Log and Transfer. This was changed a few Final Cut updates ago.

It's best not to double post the same question. You have at least two threads open on this same subject.

Unless you have Raylight for the Mac, the mxf "raw" files cannot be imported directly into FCP.

http://www.dvfilm.com/raylight/mac/index.htm

Some NLEs on both platform support this, for example Premiere CS3 on a Mac.

FCP does not, but unwraps and rewraps the mxf files to QT upon log and transfer.

No quality loss occurs.
