FS5: Unable to manually adjust shutter speed and white balance on Sony FS5?

Hello,

I’ve been using my FS5 for a few days now, but I can’t figure out how to manually dial in the shutter speed I would like, likewise with the colour temperature, I can’t manually pick it using buttons, I have to go through the menu system to alter it.

Is there something I am missing? On the Sony FS100 which I came from, you could alter the shutter speed and colour temperature using one of the dials on the exterior of the camera body.

I try to do it on this camera with the same method, using that “Sel/Set” dial, after activating either the shutter speed or the white balance with their corresponding buttons, but nothing happens.

I've made sure to check that I am not in "Full Auto" mode or have moved "Hold" over.

Has anybody else encountered this?

Ooop nevermind.

Solved my own problem.

If you leave AutoFocus on, instead of switching it to manual, it disables the ability to manually adjust shutter speed or white balance.

yes, and this is one of my pet peeves with the FS5, you have to switch focus modes to alter other settings? ridiculous, I hate this every time I use my FS5...

Hopefully this would be considered a bug and could be fixed, anyone know who at Sony you at least try to contact about things like this?

Actually, that is not entirely correct. The ability to change the shutter speed is only disabled if you are using the Face Detect auto-focus mode. If you are using the regular AF mode, then you can change the shutter speed anytime you choose to. It is not a bug, it is a limitation of the camera so don't hold your breath that Sony will change it. Also, unless I missed something, I'm 99.9% sure that white balance is not tied to the auto-focus mode at all.
