unable to figure out how to do scale ups and audio editing in Premier Pro CS6

• In FCP7, when I had an image in the source window and wanted to do some basic animation: scale up and move around (Ken Burns style effects), it was very simple. I just turned on the overlay and animated.

I can't figure out how to do this in PP CS6. There doesn't seem to be any overlay controls that allow you to grab the image and scale up and move it around the source window.

Are these controls just not there in PP CS6? Or am I supposed to be doing this in After Effects instead and importing?

• Also, is there no audio window in Premier Pro like there is in FCP7 where you can scrub through the audio and see your waveform displayed in the source window? Or do I have to use Audition for any audio editing?

I generally use after effects to animate stills but you can do it from within PP. You can use the rubber band on the timeline to animate various parameters. The default is opacity, just click on opacity and it will reveal the other parameters, then use key frames on the rubber band to adjust. YOu can alsouse the source viewer - just click the effect control tab. You'll find scale, position etc under motion. Add key frames on the timeline to the right.

For the audio waveform you need to right click on the timeline and choose unlink then you can load it into the source viewer.

You can see the waveform of the audio right on the Timeline.

Just click the arrow - "->" - to the left of teh name of the audio track. The waveform will drop down.

In the Source window, to see the Audio Waveform, select Audio Waveform in the upper right Source Panel Menu. The panel will fill with the waveform.

You can move that window around, and use taht with the mixer controls displayed to mix the audio.

Look in the effects window at the top with the clip highlighted - motion, when opened lets you scale up and down, and shift left/right and up/down. If you start the keyframing you can automate everything.

Thanks everyone. Liam, is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut for "unlink". For some reason "link" is listed in the keyboard shortcuts section but not 'unlink'. Also, when I unlink and then bring up the audio waveform in the source monitor, I don't see a horizontal line that would enable me to make audio adjustments with keyframes. Sorry, my FCP7 background again.

Hi Paulears. I don't why, but any change I make in the effects window gives me a spinning beach ball (working on a macbook pro retina) every time i make any change to my jpeg. And it's not even a high res still (640x480).

Nicholas, click/select the clip/image in the timeline, go to the Effect Controls and click on the word Motion (or the transform icon just in front of the word Motion) so it gets highlighted.
Now in the Program Monitor, the clip has gotten a bounding box with handles for you to scale the image and use the pointer to move the image around in the Monitor.

For keyframing audio with the yellow line make sure you have got the audio track expanded and display style (in the trackheader) set to show clip volume.

Yeah, it's pretty straight forward.

Oh well, I guess reading manuals is somehow out of fashion.

No offense, but you're working in a new-to-you program. Time to grab some tutes, or a book and put in some seat time.

Yeah. I can see the future. Library's will be converted to Museums.

I already did. I've been following a number of Premiere tutorials on lynda.com and reading the Premiere Pro manual.

But one doesn't always find all the answers there. Thank you very much everyone for your help.

Pathetic - Really?

Everybody here knows I'm all in for helping anyone if I can, but lately it's getting a bit overboard with people, that are too frigging lazy to even look up the simplest tasks in their manuals.

just saying...
