Unable to dump directly to HD

Have a 77gig xternal, Mac OS Journal formatted drive. When I get to the final step to offload, only the "setup" action is lit up. Copy to HDD, Format HDD and Propery are all dark. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I was concerned you were trying to offload from the camera with out a computer. Formating aside... are you just trying to drag and drop the last txt file and contents to the hard drive? I may be wrong on this.... but you should be able to do that to any drive despite how it is formatted. As long as your computer can read it... you should be fine.

Actually I AM trying to go straight onto the drive. I only mention my computer because I am trying to format the HD using the computer as the camera does not recognize the drive directly.

still a little confused. you mention that you are trying to offload the clips directly to a harddrive, but you also mention using your G4. also the menu you speak off is a menu used for directly dumping thhe footage to a harddrive not using a computer.

I'm assuming you want to use the computer though. Make sure that PCMODE is set to 1394 Device in the other settings menu. Connect the camera to the computer with a firewire cable. Press the camera button in the back until it goes to MCR mode. Then hold it down until it goes into pc mode. The cards should them mount on your desktop.

Make sure that you have the proper drivers installed as well.

Mate, I had the same problem before my last trip as I was trying to preformat 3 lacie drives for use in the field. I found it extremely important not to power up the drive before you get to the final menu. For some reason the system will not see the HD if it's powered up when you turn the camera on. Get it into "1394 Host" mode wait for the menu then power up your drive. I created a usb power source running from a panasonic battery and filled 2X160gig drives on a quater of one 5600mah battery. 10 days later I still had power to burn but did not need it.

Good Luck
