Looks like someone digging up old threads to try to find out if the cams are still available. I don't think there's been a mass exodus from the HMC40 world.
The can has been on the market for a while, so it is natural that some will start appearing in the used market. If there weren't many before, it was because the cam was to new. And, the HMC isn't for everyone. The low light issues or a few others might make some folks move on. On the other hand, the cam does hit heavier than its weight in a lot of ways. For how I use it, it is a great little cam that can and does.
Understood...nornal product trajectory and known model pros and cons aside, I saw three listed in one day, almost stacked up in a list. Had to wonder. Reminded me of the sudden sale of mix pres around the web when the upgrade was announced.
Um.... no, I'm not trying to be funny or rude, there's no hidden depth to what I'm saying. Someone (not you) has literally opened up a load of threads from 2010, and is asking those sellers if the sales are still on.
Look at the date of the first post in each thread selling a '40:
Ahhh... Thanks for that clarification. My apologies for taking a forum artifact as a trend. As an aside, it would be nice if marketplace posts had an indicator of FS or sold visible before opening up link. I have mixed feelings about FS posts lingering indefinitely, even after items have long since been sold. I guess you can see who had what and how much it went for..but...
Yeah it bummed me out when I noticed someone was bumping all of those old threads, considering I'm looking to buy an HMC40. If anyone has one for sale or knows someone that does, email me please: jmarello0329@gmail.com
yeah when i bought mine i had to tell the peps selling em like, look i can get a new one for around 1500 on b&h so they would always drop their price.
and now the price went back up to 1700 on b&h
ha
I purchased an HMC40 from B&H in February for $1575. A great price for the camera in my opinion. The prices fluctuated back then as well, going up to $1899 just weeks before the day I bought it for $1575. I think that one reason could be the algorithms used by online sellers to counter the prices that other sellers have. For instance, on Amazon, sellers are able to set the price of an item to be 95% of the price of a similarly listed item. So if one seller raises their price, the others sellers price is automatically increased as well.
