Ultra Violet Red Shift

RED could take advantage of "field interchangeable sensors" in order to allow for a range of special uses, for example, Jan Schetzina, a researcher and physics professor at North Carolina State University has replaced silicon with gallium nitride in order to build a camera sensor that is sensitive to ultraviolet rather than visible light. Why not? Who said we should only shoot films in the visible spectrum?

Oh, man, that would be cool, to shoot something nobody could see. Guess that would put an end to bad reviews. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Great idea. Just imagine........nice
I would certainly use this function. I think that film shot in this way would be a hit whatever the theme was. The idea is so original.
All the best to the inovative author.

"X-ray" infrared, like on early Sony Handicam

Some pervs, me included, wish their cameras had NightShot tm on their cameras that could be turned on during the day, so as to create and "X-ray" effect. If you are a perv, you know why I want this. Too bad this will probably not happen, although it most certainly could be done. Afterall Sony did it. Red would have to have it on their cameras, but have it be a complete secret. You would have to join the RED Brotherhood in order to have the secret revealed. You would have to undergo a ceremony at RED headquarters and bring you camera to have its secret power activated. You would have to swear to never tell a soul, or suffer death. I volunteer to be the enforcer. If you have ever seen some of the pictures captured with those early Sonys, you would want one too. Yeah, someone could do a hack. But I am a lazy perv, without hacking or soldering skills. Dude, I need Kleenex.

My concept is simple and really does nothing for the camera. I would love to have it turn on and say my name. Maybe there's a way for you to voice recored what you want your camrea to say when you turn it on.

Just one of those cool things you can do to show off your camera.

P.S camera must have a sexy female voice. record up to 5 seconds

This camera doesn't need any more upgrades, this looks to be the start of a new division of cameras.

This wouldn't work ;) Looking at things in the near infrared won't ever give you x-ray like footage.

I'll take that bet! :D

There is no reason this wouldn't happen at night then too. Simply adding some ambient daylight to the scene doesn't suddnely give 'nightshot' x-ray type abilities. And if it did give x-ray abilities you would see bones and a few organs only. Night shot works by painting the immediate scene with a near infrared LED (light we effectively can not see). It's really no different than shining a flashlight on a scene - the only difference is that the we can't see the type of light and the video camera can.

EDIT: Thinking about this some more it might be possible if all conditions were perfect to get a blurry image. Near infrared may not be reflected as well by some materials. The chances of this working to any usable degree though are very slim and rely on proper light levels, proper material, proper reflectance curve, and exposure. At best you would get a semi-legible rough image.

bones?

bones?

I am not talking about true x-ray. I am talking about Superman "x-ray." Seeing what is under thin clothing, not seeing bones and organs is what I am talking about.:2vrolijk_08:
