UK Rental

Hey Red People,

I'm planning a film which will be shot next year.

Do you think the camera will be up for rental in the UK - before April/May 2007?

Also, how much are you guessing the daily rent will be?

The film will be shot in 40 days, with a budget of around £25,000.

Thanks,

Roderick
(or Rederick... just for you guys)

Hi Kirador,

RED is planning to ship in early 2007 (no promises) and Jim Jannard said on this board that they consider 'early' to be maximum as late as April.
The good news is they are at this moment about 2 weeks ahead of schedule.
So nobody, even Jim Jannard himself, isn't sure about that.

What you *could* maybe try is find someone on this board or at dvinfo.net, from the UK, who has the camera reserved and has an early spot in line... and you could maybe rent from that person or use him as DOP or something...
But still, at this moment, it's not exactly conclusive.

Best regards,

Well a weekly hire of something like an XLH1 appears to be about £400 inc VAT, which can be bought for under half the price of the Red One between £4500 - £5000. That's not taking into consideration costs of accessories. I'd therefore say that you will be looking at £800 - £1000 for weekly hire at least (and probably about £200 a day). Weigh into it the fact that they will likely be in demand by people looking to hire them to see if they are worth purchasing in the beginning.

But if I were to receive mine by then I'd be more than happy to rent it out to you at about £800 for a week - but it would all depend on insurance etc (I'd probably stay on shoot just to keep an eye on it lol). I'd imagine that professional hire types would try to charge about £1500+ to begin with though. Afterall there might only be a handful of them available in the UK.

But I'll be honest I don't know anything about renting, it's all just guesses and I could be way out mate (Although I usually underprice myself on everything else so i wouldn't be suprised if I have here lol).

Thanks for the info, Sidderke.

I hadn't thought about renting it off a UK individual. I'll check around the boards for people based nearby.

I can't wait to see what this camera's capable of...

Thanks again

Roderick

Hi Homersapien,

If weekly rental does turn out to be around £800 I'd be very happy. And you say you may consider renting yours out if it arrives before? I'll keep a note of you. Whereabouts do you live in the UK? Production will take place around the southwest of England + 2-3 days in Ireland. I may be able to push the principal photography schedule forward... to MAY/JUNE... or even JUNE/JULY (nothing past July - this film needs to be completed by September 2007) if necessary.

I can send you my email address if you're interested in working on the film, and want to know more about it.

Regards,
Roderick

I live in the Peak District in the Midlands so there isn't anywhere that is too far away (and anywhere that is too close either lol). I'll PM my email address for you to keep a hold of and then we'll have to wait on release dates.

Hi there

I'm based in London and will be receiving RED#68 :-)

I'll have a set of Zeiss Super Speeds T1.3 as well as a RED 300mm.

When not working on my own projects I'll be offering a complete DOP, Data-workflow and Post Production package as I have my own production and post production company.

We'll be offering the RED workflow with a Colour Grading/Finishing (Effects and Graphics) and Mastering service. I colour grade with FinalTouch and edit with FCP, although will be encouraging clients to do the Off-line edit themselves as this saves costs.

Kind regards
Rory
