Just got a call from my dealer here in the UK about 10 min ago. he said that the prices have been confirmed and they are as follows:

£ 4200.00 + VAT (£ 4935.00 = $ 8726.56) (this price is for the camera only - no P2 cards)

£ 5800.00 + VAT (£ 6815.00 = $12050.96)(Camera and 2X 8GB P2 cards)

I didn't ask about the other Packages (4gb cards etc). Also he said I should be able to get one late Feb early March time'ish.

He aslo said that there is a launch somewhere in Europe today (13th jan) of the final HVX200E with all the spec's, anyone know anything about this?

Considering you can pick the camera up in the US for $ 5.495 = £ 3.107.51 (Jan 13th rates) we seem to be shafted up the pie-hole again over here in Europe, but hey we know our place!

http://www.ggvideo.com/pan_aghvx200.htm

I will be using it to replace some of my low end S16 work so I think I will get the US model, with the 24p and up to 60fps slo mo option.

I WILL ONLY BE USEING THE CAMERA FOR HD NOT SD!

All the latest Broadcast monitors here in the UK do 50hz and 60hz so monitoring should not be a problem.

Any thoughts from you pro's before I buy?

Cheers!

Adam

Just some info from my part.

I got a final price from my dealer here and approx. release date that I could probably get the camera.

Price is 6000€ + V.A.T 19% = 7140€

Availability date is said to be the end of February including a "maybe" so I say that even a month's delay from that wouldn't be unreasonable, considering the shipment could be too small to satisfy everyone. It's way pricier than the NTSC but what can you do, I want the camera!

As for going NTSC unfortunately for me at least is a no go, though I love the somewhat better frame-rate choices (I don't mind about the 24-25p difference it's un-noticable, but 60p looks more appealing than 50p for slow-mo, then again I could be wrong) There will be no free support from the local Panasonic here and the idea of sending the camera to the U.S for repair or other warranty stuff, just doesn't work for me.

Cheers.

Sod that. I think the HD100 is the one for me :)

I thought their was some small advantage resolution wise for the European version not only in SD mod but also in HD mode. Am I wrong?????

what about cross the pond, buy the Pal version, and one of those Mack warranties? they supposed to be international, or am i mistaken?

If we declare it when we go back will the taxes kill this deal or will still be ok?

I am definetely going to fly to NY, buy it there, spend two more days sightseeing and bring the cam back to Germany in my hand luggage!

I am sick and tired of this European customer ripping off!!!

I have a Mack warranty for my XL2 which is PAL but sourced from the states. By all accounts, there is next to no difference in repair time with this warranty than there would be if I sourced a repair in the UK.

The taxes will indeed kill the deal if you declare the camera.

Check out this link for a DVX100B quote including import duty and tax

https://www.globalmediapro.com/do/quote/1802/loc=p&locID=1802

that ends up being only 50 pounds cheaper than here in the UK. Then you have to add the mack warranty which puts it equal with the UK.

The flight to NY and the hand luggage idea may well be the best.

Cant believe here in the UK the cam will cost not far shy of an extra 2 grand. I mean the DVX100B is very close in price with the states (as far as I'm aware).

What about plane tickets? What's the cost? Will the PAL camera be available when you get there and how can you arrange something like that without a million headaches? Something else, can you live with the anxiety of checking in a hand luggage through the X-RAY and having to deal with official asking questions and maybe paying a fine, and talked down to?

How much will you actually gain in terms of white hair<->boy I'm in trouble<->thank god nothing happened<->I gained money<->I lost money<->I'll never do it again, ratio ?

To put it in perspective the XLHD1 can be had for 5873 pounds in the UK. about $10,400.

Not nearly as hellish a leap in price as the HVX.

I might as well get the NTSC version.
Nobody can detect the motion difference between 24p and 25p, and the 4% pitch increase of the audio can be fixed in post production. In addition, I'll get 60p for slow motion, the PAL version will only have 50p.
Now that I am thinking of it ... I might REALLY do that!
What do you think, fellow European customers? Is there any other relevant drawback?

and you'll spend some days in NYC!

Yeah baby....oops I forgot about my point :)

The thing is... that no one can really guarrantee that you can get away with it, so you may actually lose more money + I'd like to stay legit in those things, call me an ass but that's just me.

michael, the dvcprohd codec in europal admits more pixels in horizontal, think
it remains to be seen if it translates into more resolution

Rodrigo, thanks, I almost forgot about that. Has the PAL codec really a higher pixel resolution or a lower compression rate?

Well if that price is mirrored around the UK I will be jumping on a flight to NY and B&H when they get the PAL versions in stock.

getting the camera in will be no problem, really. Just stick it in yoour hand luggage, and post the empty box back to the UK with a couple of ornaments wrapped in it, value £35.

There's isn't a chance in hell of me paying that much over the top.

Hi Rodrigo.

Hmm, I doubt it will. Lets take the evidence so far that 1080p isnt 50% higher than 720p. Even if it was say 20%-30% (which is barry's guestimate) that would leave the ccd/lens combo with a resolivng power of well under the 1280x1080 DVCPROHD spec. i.e. there will be wasted bandwidth even at this level in terms of real world resolution. Recording at 1440x1080 in theory would just be recording more redundant information.

In a nutshell if we are not seeing a real world performace of 1280x1080 from this cam - which we are not. Then 1440x1080 shouldn't make any difference.

Thats just my opinion, but we'll see from barrys tests how much 1080p mode is actually resolving.
