Two SGpro Clips

First one is a few seconds of a interview I shot. It looks soft on here but on the TV its actually really crisp when the guy isn't leaning towards and away from my camera as he is talking:

The second one are just random wide shots on my tripod because I was bored and it was nice out. Mainly cars and people walking. I was going to try to catch the sunset to get some footage but it was way to hot to keep walking around.
Some of these are also soft probably because I could barely see into my viewfinder cause my eyes were taking a beating from the sun but some of it is still cool looking:

First Clip: Good Sound and nice colors and DOF. However, having filmed a few interviews myself it is always important that the camera man tell the the interviewee--constantly--to maintain eye contact with the interviewer and to always sit up straight. I hate to say it, but the way he was sitting spoiled the footage a bit for me.

Second Clip: Beautiful. You're really growing as a film-maker with the SG-Pro--heck they should be paying you for all the publicity your're giving it ;)

I do have a few questions however:

1. Did you touch up the colors in post on the second clip?
2. Do you use the Nikon lens that can be ordered with the SG-Pro?
3. The footage has a very nice glow to it, is that your camera skill or something done in post?
4. Did you shoot it in widescreen on your DVX or did you add the matte later?

Awesome work Steven!

thanks mack
i had problems with the interview because my back was against the wall and i needed to get as close to a medium shot as i could so he had to lean in a bit from his chair. it does look weird though.

1 I messed with the colors in vegas using the curves filter and some magic bullet to tint it.
2 I didnt know sgpro sold lenses with the adapter. mine came from b and h, it was a hundred bucks, the cheapest they had.
3 I dont know what you mean by glow, but it might be caused by the sun
4 It is 4x3 and i just add the black bars because I am used to 16x9 before i had the adapter

great stuff steven,

again, proof of the beauty of the wonderful sgpro.

I would ask if you could please post some original uncorrected stills of the interview? I find your palette and particular curve adjustment is very very filmic and would love to see a before and after to compare. Would you mind?

thanks

sorry papa but i already deleted the footage i captured for the interview. it was from a while ago and i dont have the tape it was on either. but i can tell you that i only used the vegas curves filter. all i did was make a S shaped curve. it actually looked basically the same as that clip but a little less dark, sort of hazy like

nice footage steven. really filmic. for the second clip, while shooting did you get any trouble for setting up your tripod on the city streets. usually in manhattan the cops are really strict about shooting.

hey thanks anthony

deckardscott - i heard nyc is tough to shoot in especially with a "big" camera which you have. no one cares here. dont you need a permit to shoot with a "big" camera or something too in nyc? the only time i have been hassled in philly is when i accidentally recorded an alley next to a federal prison. there were cool flags on the side of the neighboring building but apparently it looked like i was shooting the prison and i guess that is a no no.

I know that guys who attend NYFA get a permit that enables them to shoot anywhere in NY public space with being hassled.

pretty sweet. So i can see why the police may get mad if you don't have a permit.

hey steven went on your website. great stuff. did you shoot all that footage with the dvx and sgpro combo? also, when you shoot outside, do you stop down both the lens and dvx or just the lens or vice versa? the footage is very crisp.

deckard - i think when im outside i have been using a shutter of 250, keeping my lens in the middle (nikon) and then i think the iris on the camera is liek 5.6 or less. i usually just mess around till it looks decent

only the second page of videos on my site are adapter videos, the first pages is just normal dvx back when i didnt know what an adapter was
