Hallo

someone uses
[h=1][/h][h=1]TVlogic Alphatron EVF-035W-3G[/h] on Canon C100 ?if possible some opinions..

Thanks

This is the best EVF currently available

And still I would wait for a "Mark II" version of it or look through the Zacuto Gratical when it comes out before deciding;)
I used the Alphatron with a BMCC and it just didn´t feel like a 1000€ piece of gear.

Edit, found this:

3000$ ??? really ?
For the big model, the smaller one (LT) seems to run for 1500$, that´s about 1100€, same price as the Alphatron...
EVFs tend to be expensive compared to monitors, but I would consider them a long term investment.

Hallo

I'm going to buy a Alphatron,I currently have a ninja blade..and use it as a monitor control C100.However it is too heavy to carry with two batteries,if anyone has both or has tested, Alphatron the best thirst as monitor?[h=1]Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display ?[/h]

I have the Alphatron on my C300 and like it. But I will be getting a Zacuto Graticle when it becomes available. I played with it at NAB and the image was gorgeous. The two best looking VF's I saw at NAB: the Graticle OLED and the new VariCam OLED VF.

I feel the only long term investments are tripods and lenses. These things last for more than a decade at least.

Technology keeps on improving, unfortunately it hasn't trickled down to the camera monitors. When there is so much of talk of 4k, the monitors are not even full HD. Using an ipad for monitoring through wireless for the director becomes a viable option.

Compared to monitors EVFs are still lower down in technology adoption. I think the EVF manufacturers are targeting 4 years or longer refresh rate. By next NAB there should be new versions of other EVFs. Not having physically seen Zacuto's Gratical, 3000 USD appears a bit too much for me. Will wait for reviews once it is launched.

Again, Zacuto announced TWO versions of the Gratical, one for around 1500$ and one for 3000$. They also stated sth obvious: "Retina" supposedly already means, that the screen resolution is more than the eye can resolve, at least given the fixed distances a EVF is bound to. So their models offer even higher resolution than "retina" screens, hence there should be some improvement, but even a 4K image won`t look that much different on the tiny screen of an EVF.

An EVF that costs more than 99% of TV's/monitors you'll ever watch anything on....
Ridiculous.

The Arri, Band Pro, and Red viewfinders are all this expensive if not more expensive. What's ridiculous about professionals needing better displays than consumers? It would be ridiculous using anything less than the best you can afford on a professional production.

apples and oranges! u r talking about different technologies led vs oled.... look for prices of OLED monitors.... u ll be much surprised!

with oled u get true blacks, better contrast and as i understand its what u need for focus. look for prices of other EVF.... and they only works with 1 cam! but what zacuto did - 1evf for every cam! and its something! sony f5/55 EVF is even more expansive ....

I absolutely agree, apples and oranges. And Red/Arri/Sony will absolutely have some way more expensive things for larger productions (and I do agree that you can spend as much as possible to get the best stuff possible for production.

I do think a $3000 EVF for a $6000 camera (this is a C100 tagged thread, and OP asking about C100) is a bit much for the level of production that comes with a C100.

It's not being made for the C100 specifically, but I agree it's a dubious purchase. That said, there are C300s, C100s, and Canon dSLRs shooting crane shots/b unit on a lot of network tv. If they want to improve the viewfinder, it's a drop in the bucket for that kind of production. And I know of ACs working on national ads (Super Bowl level) being shot on the C300 on cameras specced out with Alexa-priced amenities.

There's a market, but... it's not us lol.

Welcome to TV production, brother. Lol. It's not like we all enjoy spending the crazy amounts of money that we do on some things, but the good stuff costs...

My first HD field monitor(8.4" Panny, ~$5k) cost more than my 92" set in my den. As others said, apples and oranges. The B&W CRT VF's on my VariCams were about $4500 each. The color LCD VF's were about $3K when I bought them. A good VF is as essential as anything else. ESPECIALLY when you're shooting with a s35 chip camera and focus is a mofo. Why do people put $20k-$30k lenses on the front of cameras that only cost a few $k. ; )

also its been already told that there will be a cheaper version - 1500$ and 3000$ something... alphatron coast around 1200-1500$ , so,-
I really consider it as a great investment, as its not just for 1 cam, u ll change your c100 in 1-2 years most likelly, but evf will still work with your new cam, as well as if it happens that u ll shoot with a different cam on some special project u will be able to use it! its seems to me that zacuto really nailed the thing!

What - besides the low bitrate codec - is the most common complaint about the C100? The bad EVF!
ProRes can be bought for cheap through a Ninja Star or Hyperdeck2, the small Zacuto is 1500 NOT 3000, so all in all you still end up way cheaper than with a C300 - and can also use both external recorder and EVF, when you rent a C500, RED, F5/55 or end up buying a second camera (like the Ursa) for jobs with other needs.
After all, the price of the EVF has nothing to do with the camera it will be attached to, but only with the image it puts out and the features it offers.
