TV Logic VFM-056 5.6" HD LCD Monitor Group Buy

Noted! I guess I don't mind spending more if it protects the equipment. Pelican cases and acrylic screens MUST. COVER. EVERYTHING. :)

Hey Taylor,

I agree. You must cover everything (I have learnt that the hard way in the past), I simply disagree with the company's policy of charging real fortunes for cheaply made accessories.

I have no complaints with the monitor as it's the best 5.6" in the market.

Also recently purchased at Film Tools. Just wanted to not for people who use this little ditty in a "viewfinder" style capacity when shooting handheld that the TV Logic coupled with an Ultralight arm... perfection. I under-sling the monitor (rig the "monitor plate" to the top thread of the TV Logic) which leaves the HDMI port wide open and because of the "vampire teeth" design of the Ultralight monitor plate... Even with my big head smashed against the Hoodman, the monitor never moves, never wobbles, never shifts. Amazing.

Is that the Hoodman for RED?

Can you post a picture?

+1

I can picture the setup, but, err, a picture would be even better :D

Yes I use the Hoodman for the Red 5.6".

I'm not very good at this but I will try to post a picture...

Hopefully that worked. The picture is terrible low light iPhone drudgery, but you get the idea. When shooting with DSLR I use the Ultralight (1x Monitor plate, 2x clamp, 1x 8" segment, 1x 1/4 20 Ball) mounted to an Ikan Cheese Stick Jr. and that in turn is mounted to a Matthews Hot Shoe to 1/4 20 adaptor... bit of a headache, but all of those parts allow me to easily put the monitor exactly where I need it.

Filmtools doesn't sell this set up as a rig, but you can buy all of the components from them. I think Samy's Camera on Fairfax also carries all of these parts oddly enough.

Cheers!

*Edit* - For clarity, I have the Panasonic battery plate and use the full size Panny batteries on this rig.

Great thread! Purchased mine today through Filmtools. They noted that there are no plans for a new firmware upgrade at the moment.

Hopefully they are wrong.

In fact, I have been told that the VFM-056WP will be receiving a firmware update at the end of May that will include several new features.

Did they told you what kind of new features they will release ? Not that I am complaining with existing features....

I went to talk to them during NAB. I really need a full screen waveform on it for a project I'm working on. They liked the idea- even got the engineering manager to promise me they'll do it.
This feature is already available on their 7" monitor but that's too big(and more expensive than the 5.6") for me, anyway.
I'd be totally stoked to have such small /inexpensive scope available...

Minor gripe. My monitor was supposed to ship out on Friday to be here by Thursday/Friday. Didn't happen and they didn't even notify me. My card didn't show the charge by last night, so I called Film Tools today and was told they shipped yesterday, with an ETA Monday. Meh...

Tomorrow I am receiving battery brackets for my 56WP unit . With some cheap panasonic bricks I hope that I will forget the factor power.. Maybe in the future TVlogic will release their own slim batteries at a logical price and not something like the plate for Canon LP-E6 that costs $170 !!!

I got my monitor a week ago and it is equipped with V.0.0.0.6

Does the Sony L mount for the TV Logic work with the N style batteries? Specifically the NP-720 that was running a Sony V1U? Seems like the batteries would be the same.

I don't get it. I placed an order with filmtools a little over a week ago, and besides a one day delay in shipping, got my order without a hitch. I've never ordered from them before.
