TV Logic VFM-056 5.6" HD LCD Monitor Group Buy

Hey Dino. Which Hvx plate are you using with your tv logic?

Thanks!

Rick, the smallHD battery is only 26Wh, which is lower capacity and more expensive at $79(including charger) than the 38.9Wh $39 Lenmar Panasonic substitute. I do like the thin, parallel form factor. My concern about using AF100 batteries is that they are rather long compared to the HVX200 Lenmar or other types, all of which would stick out the back.

Clearly, the Canon 5D/7D batteries are expensive for their capacity, and two would have to be used to get any chance at a decent run time. I believe my solution is the best run time vs. cost solution--the AF100 batteries from Panasonic are really overpriced, and even SWIT is a lot more than the HVX200 substitute brands, such as Lenmar.

Panasonic bracket for HVX200/200A/DVX100/HPX170, battery models D28S/S4S.

Taylor, Terry, congratulations on your orders, both monitors are really perfect for the AF100.

The Lenmar Panasonic substitute batteries are available at Amazon for $39, I believe, as are $16 chargers.

Thanks guys. So the Panasonic battery solution from TV Logic fits the HVX batteries?

The HVX battery solution is really nice, existing battery and charger that runs it for quite a long time. This is a great monitor.

But the firmware update system is a real negative. I have to be without this monitor for a week to send it in just to get a firmware update.
Or I could spend over $250 for a firmware update tool so I don't have to send it in.
Usb cables or thumb drives are a much more economical approach.
So, SmallHD does have a better way in this aspect.

So I got the Canadian retailer to match the Filmtools price but now I'm hesitant to buy because they charge to update firmware!!! To clarify, they said I could borrow the tool to upgrade myself for free, but the tool is typically shipped to other parts of Canada so it may take a while before I can do it myself as they only have one. The other problem, is that the tool to update is PC only! I'm now considering just getting the DP6 to avoid this headache. The tool if I want to purchase it is also $400. I really wish they went with USB to do this. Perhaps there won't be much upgrades in the future and it won't be a big deal. Now with the DP6 on sale.... hmmmmmmm

hey Bob, i'm interested in buying the TV logic here in toronto, can you send me the name of the place and/or person I need to talk to?

I hear you on the firmware upgrade situation but i feel like the TV logic does everything i need right now.

Bob may have left the building…. http://www.bse.on.ca/ is the place, it's in Scarborough.

Yeah I'm leaning towards the Logic again and I think you are right about the firmware not being a big deal. The dealer did offer to lend me the dongle to upgrade myself for free but it's pc based. Are you on a Mac or pc? When I get home I'll send you a PM tonight.

The monitor arrived. I thought you all were just a bunch of hype, but this thing is amazing. The Hoodman for the RED 5.6" LCD is a bit snug, but works well.

Did anybody else order the acrylic filter? Mine was already scratched to hell when I opened it. There are significant scratches and the obvious haze associated with cheap plastic that already make it unusable.. Does anyone recommend an alternate route for protecting the screen? Or is this an isolated case and I should just exchange it?

Taylor, glad you're happy with the monitor--I've been in the rental business too long to be one to hype things, it's really simple, we don't offer any gear in inventory if I don't think it's a good tool and value for my clients.

Acrylic filter looked perfect when I installed mine. Other option is to use a clear protective sheet like for an iPad. Some type of screen protector is important.

At $65 for a sheet of plastic, I want to be the one to scratch it up. Exchange time.

EDIT: Called up Film Tools. It's a recently disovered problem with the latest shipment of acrylic filters from TV Logic. A replacement is on the way with a return shipping label for the defective one.

+1 Film Tools customer service.

LOL... I fell for that too. I was pissed off for half a day until I called FilmTools and asked for a new one. Jennifer told me there's a sheet of protective film on the acrylic filter. It's impossible to see but trust me it's there. Peel it off starting at one of the corners. John K

Huzzah! That IS hard to see. Even after learning it was there, it was very difficult to start peeling.

Guess I owe them another phone call.

I bought Invisible Shield screen protectors for the Nook to protect mine. Almost the perfect size. Had to cut it down a little bit to fit perfectly, but now its completely covered!
