TV Logic VFM-056 5.6" HD LCD Monitor Group Buy

So I decided to try the cheap route with $9 off-brand Panasonic batteries. I figured there was no harm in trying. I charged one up and let her rip for a series of interviews I shot today... I'm at 4.5 hours continuous run time and still going strong.

No telling how they will act in a year, but for now these $9 bricks will do the trick. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MW3TE4

Thanks for the detailed list, Dino.
I have to admit that both products would probably more than suit my needs. Availability and support also matters as I'm in non-US territory.
It's great that you've arranged this group buy and if the HD-SDI output bug is fixed in the latest firmware and the color is better, the TVLogic seems like a good choice.

On another forum a German reseller wrote about TVLogic: "all of their monitors come precalibrated and can be calibrated with their optional color calibration utility for example with an Eye-One Display 2 Colorimeter."
Do you know anything about using the Eye-One on the VFM? As I already have the colorimeter, that would be a great feature!

Thanks again for all useful info, Dino!

Cheers,

Morgan

Hey Dino,

Can you wait till the middle of next week? It looks probable the DP6 firmware is probably going to be released by then, that way, you can test the update to the color as I know that is something they were addressing in this firmware release. I am on the beta test team, however, I have not had a chance to test these as I have been so busy on other projects. In addition, I do not have a TVLogic monitor to compare with. I'd just hate for you to spend the time testing it when an update is *so* close to being released that involves these issues.

+1 and I'd like to believe that your test / opinion will be unbiased...

Nice find. Even if they only last a year... it's an unbeatable price. I just bought a couple. Thanks for the link. Now I need to find another charger.

Yeah, I feel like a TV Logic rep. at this point. I'm going to borrow a client's smallHD, but I will wait for new firmware to be released. I will NOT post my findings--I don't need to be questioned about whether I'm biased about a product, I wouldn't have bought the TV Logic if it wasn't for the fact that I really liked the smallHD DP6. I've posted plenty of negative and positive aspects of the various Panasonic and Sony cameras I've owned, as well as accessories--I'm no manufacturer's shill. As I stated on the first or second post of this thread, I make exactly ZERO dollars on this DVX User group discount, in fact I paid MORE for my monitor.

*UPDATE* The DVXUser special pricing is also available from the following reseller:

Vidkey – 914-239-3232 ask for Dave or email radin@vidkey.com

Do you mean Abel's DVXuser group price will be less than the $1350 current price on their website?

FYI, I went to Filmtools today to pick up the miniXLR-dtap power cable, and the d-tap wouldn't fit into my Zacuto RED/AB plate's tap. We also tried it on a powerbase70's tap at the store, and it wouldn't fit in there either. Jim called TV Logic about it, and apparently they're going to recall them. Oh well.

Actually Abel Cine increased price today from $1350 to $1399 !!

So maybe the special price remains what was yesterday the public price ....

That sounds likely. Any DVX User member who wants to order from Abel Cinetech who can't get the $1350 price, please PM me. I am pretty sure Abel will sell to members at $1350, but I want to make sure this is still the case.

Currently, the status of Abel Cinetech being able to offer the DVXUser Forum group discount is not available. I will update if that changes. Film Tools and Vidkey DO offer the discount.

Sorry for any inconvenience. I'm working on getting this situation resolved--I know Abel Cinetech wants to participate in this offer.

R.E. Snader Assoc. in San Rafael (SF bay area) has got a price of $1,375 on the WP. So I don't know how much of a good deal these group buys are.

FYI i checked out the monitor yesterday at Abel. It looks FANTASTIC. Alot better than the SMALLHD. and i mean ALOT better. I have half a mid to sell my SMall HD.
