TV Logic + hoodman loupe EVF

Just for yucks I made an EVF out of cardboard and tape for the hoodman loupe on my TVLogic 5.6.

It works pretty damn well , sharp and good color even with my eyes looking out of progressive glasses. Of course my prototype isn't really useable in a productions situation yet . But if somebody was more enterprising and better at building stuff than me it seems it might not be too hard to make. It could screw on to the top of the TVLogic using the 1/4" hole on top and it would probably be easy to make that a quick release.
I'll post pics soon but its nothing you couldn't imagine.
You could probably make it flip up and out of the way easily also.

Unfortunately I doubt Hoodman will bother to invest in something like this because the market is so small. Although it would work for DSLRs as well so...

Good. I had talked to them at NAB about an adapter for the F3 LCD, but found a cheap way to do it myself. I may have found a really easy way to use the Hoodman 5.6 shade to hold the loupe though. Will post if it works out.

Great minds think alike. That's what I've been trying. :) I found the eye piece should stick out an additional 3/4" or so for good focus. Some foam worked but isn't exactly portable. I've also thought of trying an empty (well cleaned) plastic soap bottle.

Let me know what you did.

Hoodman mod on another camera. I wish they would pay attention more and come out with mods themselves. With a little effort they can modify their existing products so easily for all types of cameras and monitors.

Did you ever take pics of this setup? I'm becoming frustrated with viewing my TVLogic outdoors, even with a hood on it...love to see what you did. Which Hoodman Loupe is it?

Wow, I use the same for my F3 http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/attachment.php?attachmentid=42942&d=1320614721 !
Guys, I know that P+S Technik made a prototype for the TV Logic VFM (I saw it at IBC in Amsterdam).

Filippo, do you have another pic of your loupe setup? Did you just put a loupe directly on the TVLogic or did you add intermediary material? Hard to tell from that pic...

I just tried the TV Logic hoodman duo with a cardboard extension for the loupe and it was much sharper than the Small HD - also lighter . Attached it on the top with Velcro. Any more info about the P&S adapter?

The biggest EVF problem though is that I really want another function button for the TVLogic. One is good for red peaking - great - but then i can either leave the waveform on all the time, or I need to go into the menu for false color or waveform. false color is nicely adjustable. But no zebras. Waveform is not as quick to read as I would like for run & gun shooting.

Do you have a picture of how this looks? Interested to see the setup... is it just the Hoodman 3.0 Loupe?

Truelife,

I use the loupe only with the LCD of the camera like you see in this picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/55925681@N03/6146175268/
As I said P+S TechniK made a complete prototype for the TV Logic VFM.
I don't know the price but, probably, it will be expensive.

Lenny, the latest TVLogic firmware does zebras (at least for the WP version, I don't know about the W version). Unfortunately it has to be taken to someone who can do it, its not a self service item. I'm getting the firmware and the WP upgrade done at the same time.

Optitek has a loupe for the 5.6" red monitor. I've sent an email asking about its adaptability to the TV logic monitor. I note glass optics in it.

I heard back from Jecek. It ain't gonna work. No way, no how.

I'm going back to my original idea of the EX1 hoodman mounted inside the HR56 hood. It only needs to stick out about an inch and its focused right.

I just got this response back from P+S regarding their TVLogic solution:

You can buy this eyepiece directly from us:

#28042 eye piece hood incl. lens and eyepiece cup w/o shutter 1.100 € ex-works.

We also have as accessories:
#11413 Eyepiece Cup with Shutter large version 560,00 €
#11489 Eyepiece Cup with Shutter and Heating 12V 890,00 €
#11724 Cable for Heatable Eyepiece Cup, 12V 146,00 €

You can flip the hood off and it will be fixed by a magnet.

Looks nice but that's about $1,500. Ouch. The eye piece we can get from a hoodman or other loupe. Attachment can be done with top or side mounting holes, a hinge we can get anywhere. A frame should be easy to make. All we need to find is a plastic cone the right size.
