TV lens question

I'm either getting a GH2 or an af100 and have a lens question. Since they can accept a c mount lens with an adapter, why wouldn't some of the TV lenses which have awsome specs be the lens of choice? Like a 12-75mm f1.6 with a smooth zoom? A 35mm equivalent would be thousands of dollars... so there is something in this equation I must be missing.

One other question...these c mount lenses are super fast...what is the issue in making photography lenses this fast?

They are not as sharp wide open, in my experience, and there is normally some vignetting on the wider range. This can be fixed by using the telecine mode, but telecine can certainly challenge a lens' sharpness and makes the image a little softer by default.

I have a cosmicar 12.5-75mm f1.8 if ya interested... :)

Compromises, mostly... the majority of them vignette at the wider end, curing by ETC affects IQ and curing by optical tele-extender affects IQ (to a lesser degree) and speed. You can get some decent results with them, and some are wholly unique and nifty, but I haven't found one that's a well-rounded solution yet.

I agree. No "go-to" solution yet with any I've played with:

12.5-75mm f1.8 Comsmicar
8-48mm f1.2 Computar
9.5 - 143mm f1.8 Canon (B4 lens)

The prime lenses give a really neat and unique look and some are sharp even wide open, but the ETC mode certainly pushes a lens' limits.
