Tub Scene

I think the camera work looks amazing.

The only thing that struck me as a little weird is the shot straight down on her in the tub looks off center. This might have been a choice, but it doesn't exactly feel like a choice to me. The wider straight-down shot, I mean. It's not off kilter enough to look intentional to me.

But how amazing are kids? No acting. No trying. She just did the actions you told her to do, naturally, simply and to the point. God how I wish all actors could just do that.

P.S. - Yeah, next time you get a girl naked in a tub for us, please make her like 25. Just for us, please.

That's so true. You can't fake innocence. This is the third time I have used my daughter in a short film. She can make me insane at times, but then she has these moments, that just feel magical.

Chris, great clip. Love the style you went for. Don't feel the need to justify your look; it's your look, and for some reason people feel that if it's different it must be off and you made a mistake; forgetting that you made a creative choice to have it that way. A mistake is not the case, it's your style you went for and I dig it. The style and color tone feels very real like many great films have. Again great stuff, if you have more of this production, I would love to see it.

BTW Chris, your framing is excellent!

RIght behind Pappas. I saw this from the other link in that other thread and I put it up on my Television. Fullscreen on that, it looked damned good.

You took your time to get the lighting right and it paid off. Great stuff.
 
Nothing about this bothered me at all. Color was fantastic, compositions worked well. Once a score is dropped in, I believe the opening shots won't feel long like some people mentioned.

Guys, seriously, we should stop looking at things purely based on "how we would do it". It's not about how we would do it because it's not our project, not our creative vision. If nothing adversely affects the story being told, then the rest is nitpicking subjectivity at best.

Thanks for posting the footage Chris, I hope we get to see the final flik too.

Exactly. It's his creative choice as a director to have it look like that, and it works very well.
 
Thanks for all the compliments. I'm glad you guys like it.

As for the criticism, I appreciate it all, good and bad. I can learn something from everyone. Before I came to DVXUser I wasn't even aware what Color Correction and Grading were. It was only after much feedback and playing around that I got comfortable trying to create looks that I liked and fit the mood of the film.

p.s. The film is finished, I am just waiting on the score and I will share the whole film (just under 5 minutes) when it is done. To be fair though, I think the tub shot is probably the best in the film. At least it's the one scene that turned out exactly as I imagined it. So don't expect too much. :)
 
everything looks good. Am I the only one who found it creepy about the idea of videotaping a little girl naked in a tub?
 
lol, box, well, in real life there ARE little girls that bath in a tub. I mean, don't let political correction or paedophilia histeria dictate which fields you may or not cover as a filmmaker, man
 
Rodrigo, very nice cc. Although there is some odd coloring/artifacting on the girl's neck. I think this might be because you further cc'd the image that was already cc'd and it is starting to degrade.

Box, I assure you, you never actually see the girl naked, just her shoulders and above.
