trying to Print to Tape from FCP6

I can't seem to get my XH-A1 to actually print to tape when I use the Print to Tape setting for a 4:3 SD project in FCP6. The red light lights up on my LCD as the project plays but it does not record. Hmm. The project is in a 4:3 ratio and on my LCD I can only seem to get a 16:9 SD blue screen with the red record light on and the tape in the camera playing but not actually recording anything but black. (I've gone through and through my VCR menu, but there doesn't seem to a setting to make the screen 4:3 in VTR mode. In the Camera mode there is, and the LCD does change to 4:3. But I need it to be in VTR mode).

I've tried everything, it seems. As far as Print to Tape for my previous HDV project, everything went fine.

Any thoughts appreciated!
 
Have you tried refreshing your A/V devices? Or maybe your external video playback got turned off? Those are the first two things I'd check.
