Trying to get back to shooting people!

EDIT:
Messing around in PP CS5 more, tyring out the stuff I need to do the most, color grading, cropping/matting and titling. Still miss VEGAS  A LOT!!! :crybaby:
Here are the results

No more boring cat video... this time...

I took about 6 months off after my heart attack from filmmaking. Now I'm about to start directing a bunch of new projects so I wanted to shake the dust off the DSLRs and see how rusty I am as a cinematogapher :)
Hanging out with a couple of close friends, Gerardo is a tattoo artist and Buddha is the guy getting tatted. Gerardo's wife Adriana and our homeboy Dirty are along for the ride as well.
Also I'm thinking about switching to Permiere Pro CS5 from Vegas so this is my first time with that platform and the edits are just basic simple stuff (the way it should be 99% of the time anyway). I love Vegas but it just chokes too much on Canon MOVs. Premiere Pro CS5 rocks Canon clips!!! But man do I miss how easy Vegas is :(

Canon EOS 7D
Sigma 28mm f1.8
1080 24p
Aperture: f2.2-4.0 (1.8 and 2.0 are way too soft on this lens)
Shutter: 1/50-1/60
ISO: 200-400 (maybe 640 in a couple of shots, can't remember, but I try to stay under 800 whenever possible)
WB: Custom
Picture Settings: Neutral (I usually go down on the saturation and contrast but I left it alone for this)
Music: Lil' Wayne - Runnin'

I usually shoot a little flatter of an image but I wanted to get used to the LCD again so tired to get the look I wanted in camera. No color correction, just clips the way they came out of the camera.

hey Rakesh nice stuff man. what heart attack are u talking about?

Also i'd really like to know ur workflow and how u exported from cs5. i have cs4...but i'm sure i could adopted it.

goodstuff.

Darren.

Yeah man I had a heart attack Jan 2nd. I've been diabetic for atleast the last 10yrs and not treating it, and it caught up to me LOL
5 Docs including a family friend and 3 Cardiologist told me I was going to drop dead if I didn't get invasive stuff done. I used to work in ICUs and took care of post op cardiovascular patients and didn't want to end up like that, I literaly rather be dead. So they kicked me out of the ICU after 5 days of me refusing everything and they also told my wife to get me life insurance and get my things in order.
I went on a strict low fat vegan diet and started walking as much as I could. The first couple days I thought I was gonna die every few steps, but after a couple weeks I was doing about a mile a day. After a month I was at the Gym 3 days a week and walking 2 miles everyday. I lost 50lbs in the first 3+1/2 months. Now almost 6 months later I'm down 60lbs and doing cardio 6 days a week :)

But enough about me LOL
I need to boot up my editing system that has CS5 on it and I'll post from there. I tried to do it from memory but I just started using it so I don't remember s--t.
Be right back

Ok after creating a new project and I guess this would also be true for creating a new sequence, from the preset drop down menus I select AVCHD/1080p/AVCHD 1080p24
When I File/Export/Media in the "Export Settings" section I check the "Match Settings" box.
Now this creates a pretty big file, almost 200MB per minute. So this 5min12sec clip was almost 1GB. But it's pretty prestine, looks as close to the original as I could imagine. I still need to learn how to do more compressed stuff but if I'm in a pinch I could probably toss the final render into Vegas since I've had good success with really small WNV and MP4 files from there. But as I learn my way around CS5 I'm sure it'll do the same.

glad to hear about ur recovery. pretty encouraging for anyone in the a similar situation.

thanks for the other info.

Yo jambredz!!!
Tried out some new compression settings and loving the results. Originaly I posted a bigass file almost a GIG! Now both the videos I posted up top are under 200MB for the same length.

So here's what I did:
File/Export/Media or Ctrl+M (obviously)

Export Settings
Format: H.264
Preset: HDTV 1080p 24 High Quality (and adjusted the video settings below and saved a new preset)

Video Tab
Basic Video Settings
Frame Rate [fps]: 23.976 (to match the original clips better than just straight 24p, not sure if it matters that much though, just playing it safe)
Bit Rate Settings
Target Bitrate [Mbps]: 10 (you could probably go as low as 6 if you were in a crunch for space and it would probably look ok)
Maximum Bitrate [Mbps]: 15 (here low as 10 would probably be fine as well)

Checked the "Use Maximum Render Quality" box (mostly cause it has the word "Maximum" in it and being an American I like words that express extreme amounts of anything!!!)

10Mbps looks good to me, higher would be better, not sure how much better though. Anything above 20Mbps would probably be a waste of 1s and 0s (ha my first binary joke)
