Truelight Light S-LOG plugin

Am i the only one that thinks sLog doesnt look bad?

I kinda like it.... i like seeing all the detail.

it's gonna cost a few grand in the very least. but it's nice to see more simple straight forward color management solutions. I've been stuck in a 709 world for way too long, hopefully this will be something somewhat affordable...

I am liking the poor brother, Technicolor (Log) profile on 7D. Almost not grading at all properly exposed footage.
So envy of you F3 owners these days

I almost prefer the look of the ungraded log over the graded one. I am doing a project now and we have decided to go with the Technicolor look almost untouched for the most part. Same scenes need a little contrast and saturation, but overall I really enjoy the low contrast look.

the plugin at the moment only works with composite software. like AE, NUKE, SHAKE, etc. it's meant to work with software that has built in tools like dpx rendering and etc. maybe they'll include it in FCPX if it can natively interpret and write dpx files... nothing from Filmlight I've ever seen has ever been cheap. I would say expect this plugin to be worth thousands of dollars. there's no price tag on it, you have to call in for it, and I think they've actually been using this for a long time but are just advertising this much harder because s-log for intensive purposes is finally hitting the masses.

considering you'd usually pay 10x that to a post house for this level of color management, it's a steal.

Macgregor, I only paid $800 for a legit version of Adobe Premium bundle CS5 suite - now that is a steal if I do say so myself!

On a side: are you the Macgregor DOP who worked on the short films for Barry's lighting DVD? Amazing work... I need to go watch your showreel now...

i guess, although that was.. 3-4 years ago?

Is it something more than a gamma curve?

I'd like to test it anyway.

In AE you can always do colour correction before you apply a log-lin conversion with Slog settings (easy to set up following sony's Slog white papers). Not sure what the difference would be compared to the filmlight plugin but it seems like the same principle to me.

Only problem is that CS5.5 was announced shortly afterwards, but what a sweet suite it is. Comes with Synthetic Aperature and Mocha tracking software which is way better than the pixel tracking built into AE.

Go to ebay and search ADOBE PRODUCTION PREMIUM CS5 you will see many items available for around $1200 now....

I believe it's a little more involved than just gamma conversions, this plugin's primary purpose is to color manage your material to accurately produce the image through the compositing and post pipeline, so you keep the same look on your monitors across various pieces of software. VFX work back to the grade, back to the edit, etc. . Gotta find out more about it from filmlight, reading more about it, it might just be a piece to a bigger system, gotta see what it does stand alone.
