Trouble with Deck

I have a Panasonic DV-2500 deck, and I just used it to record a mini-DV tape from a video source... Now I am trying to play it back and capture it and it keeps lighting up the DVCAM tape light and skipping and glitching the tape... what's going on here?

The first thing you need to check is to see what you recorded in; DV or DVCAM; you can record both onto a MiniDV tape.
Once you've established what you recorded in, make sure the playback device can recognise which it is; and of course that it can play it back.

Well... I used the deck to record from a VHS player (attached with a regular RCA video cord to the deck, and recorded in normal DV mode...

Well, the obvious suggestion then would be to put that tape into a cam, and capture from the cam (DVX or so).
If that poses no problems, the deck might have "issues" in playing back its own recordings (which would be BAD!).

...and can you play the tape in another deck (or cam?).

Also do other tapes play fine in the deck?

The day of "Briceman capturing" it is NOT!

Last suggestion for the day: try a cleaning tape in the deck.

Wait, don't tell us.....you don't have one??? :)

bricey, I imagine it's a head issue, but it was most likely something in the recording, rather than the playback. You can open 'er up and manually clean the heads...I've got a 2500 that's had a pretty rough life...including a fall from 6' onto a concrete floor. Still ticking. Actually it does tick when I play big tapes.

Dude, how do I open it up and clean it? It'll capture and playback fine with the DVX, so I KNOW its not when I am recording...
