7D Trouble with Canon 7D with Marshall LCD70 HDMI Monitor

Hey guys,

I lent to a friend my Marshall LCD70XP-HDMI monitor to use with his Canon 7D (hooked with a HDMI cable of course). He's having troubles with trying to make the HDMI input use the full 16:9 resolution on the monitor and I tried to help but couldn't see what the problem was.

The monitor displays everything in a 4:3 aspect ratio, even when we play around with the aspect ratio of the monitor. We found nothing in the menus of the 7D to help on this issue and nothing in the manual either. I even hooked up the 7D on my LCD TV home to see if it was the monitor but it seems the problem comes from the 7D. The monitor works fine with a HMC150 so I dunno what's keeping the 7D from using the full display.

Anyone knows what's this problem about and how to solve it? He's got a big shoot tomorrow and would really like to be able to use that monitor.

Thanks a lot, hope to get some replies quickly!

Hey Ted,

I don't think we tried that. Are the informations on-screen keeping the image to fully cover the 16:9 aspect ratio of the monitor?

Once you cycle thru the modes and choose the one without any info display, the image will fill "almost" the whole screen. The only thing left will be a white outlined square when not recording.
The hdmi output is not 16x9 in ratio as the whole sensor readout is shown cropped with a transparent letterbox, top and bottom. So while the image is now full top and bottom, the sides will have pillars.

My friend told me he finally got the 7D to display correctly the image using the info button. Thanks a lot for your help Ted!

You are welcome Gabriel.
That thing bit me too, good thing I chanced upon the solution since its something you don't find in the manual.
-So when i saw the title of the thread you started I knew it was something like that.
